Reconciliation Week

This week marks Reconciliation Week, with Sorry Day being commemorated on Monday. The theme for the week is "Bridging Now to Next", which encourages reflection on the past, present, and future of reconciliation efforts. This week recognises the 1967 referendum and Mabo Day, both important milestones in the ongoing journey of reconciliation.

Our students have been working on various projects and learning about these events and the sentiment of these occasions. Below are some examples of the work they have done.

Acknowledgement of Country

Our Grade 1/2 students read the text Hello and Welcome by Gregg Dreise which inspired them to write their own verison of an acknowledgement of country,  taking into consideration the things that they are thankful for.

I would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we learn today, the Dja Dja Wurrung people of the Kulin nation. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I'd like to thanks the trees for the air it gives. I pay my respect to the farmers that grow the trees. - Xavier

I'd like to thank school, because we can learn new stuff everyday. - Teddie

I am thankful for all the clouds that give us water. - Logan

I'd like to thank everything in the world and the nature that I love. - Hazel

I am thankful for the air we breathe. I pay my respect to the fruit that comes from trees. - Grayson

I'd like to thank the river for it's water and the rain for the water for the crops. - Hemi

Grade 3/4

Students worked together to create a display to acknowledge Reconciliation Week.

Grade 5/6

Students in Grade 5/6 have been developing their understanding of Aboriginal cultural knowledge, beliefs and practices.  These footprint artworks were created to represent the importance of 'walking side-by-side' towards reconciliation. Students also had the opportunity to look at some cultural artifacts and learn about what they represent.
