On Thursday the 12th of June 5/6 students represented Meadows PS at the District AFL Gala Day. It was a beautiful sunny day at Dallas Brooks CPS and the boys and girls AFL teams were eager to participate in the competition. 

Many students across the school have asked... what is a Gala Day? Well at the AFL Gala Day a number of schools compete in a round robin's style competition to see who will represent our district in the Northern Metro AFL Gala Day. We verse other schools in a 20-minute game of footy and the goals scored by our teams help calculate where we end up on the leaderboard.

Meadows AFL Boys team played against Dallas Brooks Galaxy, Dallas Brooks Ravens, Bethal and Coolaroo South. They were undefeated in the first 3 rounds - scoring about 100 points! The most goals scored in our boys' team was by Mohammed Barakat. Some memorable goals were also scored by Osman Said and Adam Saad. Our ruck, Amir Hilal was unstoppable, working hard to make sure that he was winning the ruck contest. Roni Chaker and Joseph Ioapo Asiasi were our incredible defensive players who stopped the opposing forward players from scoring. Most tackles of the day belong to Omar Abou-Eid  - he wanted to make sure that no one got the ball past him! Our boys team made it to the finale game, where Meadows were defeated by Dallas Brooks Galaxy.

Meadows AFL Girls team played against Dallas Brooks Galaxy, Bethal and Dallas Brooks Ravens. Our girls team worked really hard this year to strengthen their handballing and kicking and improved on their ability to get possession of the ball. Asiyah Khaled had the most goals scored by our girls' team where she stunned spectators with her massive kicks. The two sisters Mya and Zahra El Hazouri played multiple positions across the day and showed off their impressive defensive and offensive skills. Our ruck Mya Taha won most ruck contests of the day, using her height and power skills. Amoun Khoder had the best tackles of the day - she didn't want to let anyone get through either! I really want to commend the girls on their encouragement of one another and their drive for improvement. They trained multiple times a week to make sure they were ready for the day and were very supportive of each other.
