Middle School News

Year 7 to Year 9

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I would like to begin by expressing my sincere thanks to the students, staff, and families for the warm welcome I have received as Acting Head of Middle School while Mr McGrath is away. It has been a pleasure to step into this role and witness first-hand the energy and engagement of our middle school students.

It has been especially heartening to see so many students actively participating in co-curricular opportunities such as the recent Cross Country events, the Career Taster programs, and the Lightning Carnivals across Years 7, 8, and 9. These experiences play an important role in student development, promoting teamwork, personal growth, and a strong sense of community.

Looking ahead, our Year 9 students will soon take part in their annual retreat – a highlight of the middle school calendar. This year, students will be walking the Salvado Way, following in the footsteps of Bishop Rosendo Salvado. This journey offers not only a physical challenge but a spiritual and reflective experience as well.

At Salvado Catholic College, camps and retreats are an integral part of our educational program. They are grounded in Catholic values and provide opportunities for prayer, reflection, and liturgical engagement. These experiences also allow students to step outside the classroom and take part in unique activities that help build resilience, deepen relationships, and strengthen their connection with both peers and staff.

As we guide students to reflect on their personal journey, we also encourage them to think about the footprints they leave behind – not only during retreats and camps, but in their everyday actions at school. Stewardship is a value we actively promote, and we ask all students to take responsibility for the care of our College environment.

This includes simple but important acts like looking after our grounds, being respectful in how we use shared spaces, and maintaining tidy locker areas to prevent litter from spreading. These small efforts reflect the pride we take in our school and the respect we show to others.

As the term continues, I look forward to working alongside our students and staff to ensure that we continue to grow as a respectful, inclusive, and values-driven middle school community.

Warm regards,

Mrs Christy Thomas
