Year 3 to Year 6
Year 3 took part in their Reconciliation Retreat this week at the Schoenstatt Shrine in Mount Richon. The day started with much excitement as students arrived at school in free dress and then bundled onto the bus full of expectation. The day, facilitated by Sister Lisette, saw the students learning in a creative and hands on way about Jesus our Shepherd which helped them to reflect on their emotional and spiritual needs. The students spent a special prayerful time in the chapel with Sister Lisette where they learnt that they were God’s greatest treasures. The Reconciliation Retreat provided our Year 3 students with the chance to reflect on the power of forgiveness in their own lives and helped our Sacramental candidates to reflect on their upcoming Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Year 4 have been learning about famous explorers and their first contact with our First Nations People. To bring the concept of exploration alive, students participated in an exciting scavenger hunt around the school. They worked in ‘crews’ to read clues and locate six different locations, each revealing information about the Dutch explorer Dirk Hartog. It was a fun and active way to explore history and learn more about one of the first Europeans to land on our beautiful Australian shores.
In Year 5, students have been learning about area with some hands-on outdoor classes. They used trundle wheels and other measuring tools to work out the area of some of our play spaces. It was great fun and an excellent learning opportunity on a bright sunny day.
Year 5 are also busy preparing for their assembly item on Thursday 29th May at 8:50am. The assembly, The Great Lemonade Standoff, is providing students with a fantastic opportunity to explore the Humanities and Social Sciences strand Economics and Business. We are looking forward to the final performance!
For Year 6, the first round of the Eagle’s Cup proved a great success with students showing off their sporting skills and team spirit. It was an opportunity for Year 6 to come out of their comfort zone and have a go at something new. Congratulations to our football team who had an emphatic win over the St Emilie’s side. Many of the SCC footy team were ‘borrowed’ from the soccer team and so demonstrated great resilience and skill!
