From The Team

It’s been a fantastic couple of weeks in Year 1/2, full of fun, creativity and learning! One of the big highlights was our excursion to Knox Community Gardens as part of the ‘Healthy Eating So Kids Thrive’ program. Students had a great time exploring the gardens, planting lettuce seedlings, learning about composting and beehives, and even tasting fresh fruit and vegetables straight from the garden! We were very lucky with the weather and are so grateful to our wonderful parent helpers who made the day run smoothly. A special thank you to Kristy B, Chitra C, Kristy D, Ruth L and Anita S – we couldn’t have done it without you!

Back at school, we’ve been busy with our ‘Magnificent Minibeasts’ unit. Students have been designing and building their own minibeast models and writing detailed information reports about them. We’ve also enjoyed reading non-fiction texts and learning about their features, playing maths games, and learning about time and location.

Thank you for your continued support – we’re looking forward to more exciting learning in the weeks to come!

‘Healthy Eating So Kids Thrive’ Excursion

On Monday 2nd June, our Foundation and Year 1/2 students took part in an exciting excursion to Knox Community Gardens as the final part of the ‘Healthy Eating So Kids Thrive’ program. After participating in two engaging incursions at school, the students had the opportunity to take their learning outdoors.

At the gardens, they enjoyed a range of hands-on activities including exploring the garden beds, investigating composting and beehives, planting lettuce seedlings, and making their own Japanese pancakes (Okonomiyaki). Students also looked at, smelt and tasted a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables straight from the garden!

We finished the day with a visit to the Tim Neville Arboretum, where the students had time to play and enjoy the natural surroundings. It was a fantastic day of learning, healthy eating, and fun in the outdoors!

Information Reports

As part of our Integrated Studies unit ‘Magnificent Minibeasts’, our Year 1/2 students took part in an exciting and imaginative project. After learning about the features and habitats of real minibeasts, students researched, designed and created their very own unique minibeast models! To accompany their creations, each student also drafted and published an information report describing what their minibeast looks like, where it lives, and what it does.
