Foundation

Last week was Harmony Week, where we learnt about Australia's amazing cultural diversity. The motto for this year was ‘Everyone Belongs’ and was used to encourage us to appreciate our differences and similarities and promote inclusiveness.
We asked parents to send through information about their families, including where their family originated from and whether they speak another language at home. This has allowed us to have discussions with students about inclusiveness, respect and creating a sense of belonging for all Australians.
To show where our students are from, each Foundation class put up a world map with strings connecting to students’ countries of origin. Below are pictures of our maps and where we are from.
After our discussions, we made beautiful crowns to wear on Harmony Day. Pictured are some of the students making their crown and wearing them. We also wore our crowns on Friday when as a school we at lunch together!
Last week we also had our first incursion. This tied into our STEAM unit of All About Me, but also into Harmony Day where we encouraged students to be proud to be themselves and that Everyone Belongs no matter who they are.
Below are some pictures from the Day.
The students have enjoyed learning about Harmony Day and the importance of celebrating our differences. They understand that it is a day to celebrate the many cultures that make up Australia and the need to accept and respect each other.
