Gardening at CPS

The Garden is growing a variety of fruit and vegetables. Students come to the Garden to check how their plants are going, excited when they see new growth and seeing flowers and produce appear. It is also great to see the students take an interest and show their excitement when they see how well the plants of other classes are growing too. In gardening class, student have learnt the value and importance of worms and lady bugs in the garden as well as seeing the damage that cabbage moths can cause.
Most of the produce is coming along well, the fastest growing has been the radishes with 1B able to pick all their radishes already. Students tried them fresh, however they were very strong in flavor. We then pickled the rest and students were able to take them home and enjoy them with their families.
This week the Year 6 students have been busy working together to dig and plant corn in the aim of establishing a corn wall that will screen the garden from the lane and crate a greener environment in the garden. Students have worked well and look forward to seeing the corn grow and hope to be able to eat the corn produced.
The Garden is open during lunch time for the students to enjoy. Students can sit in the shade in a peaceful setting while they draw or talk with other students or help with the gardening which includes weeding and watering. Students in the garden range from Foundation to Year 6 and all of them getting along with discussions about the different produce growing and showing each other what their class is growing in the veggie pods or the garden beds!
