Year 3/4

Harmony Week
This week the Middle School have studied the book Two Mates, to coincide with the celebration of Harmony Week. Students have been introduced to powerful themes of diversity, friendship, support and acceptance. The story centers around the friendship between Jack and Raf, two boys from different backgrounds who demonstrate the value of understanding and respecting each other's differences.
The connection to Harmony Week is clear, as the week celebrates cultural diversity and the importance of building inclusive communities. Jack and Raf’s relationship mirrors the essence of Harmony Week, demonstrating how friendships can bridge cultural divides and promote a sense of belonging, no matter the obstacles that seemingly stand in our way.
Here is a snippet of student thoughts on the week:
"Harmony week is about being kind and listening to other people. We should do this, because it will make others feel happy and spread the message on."
- Stella
"Harmony week is a way for everyone to get together, be happy and nice to each other. The book showed us that friendship has no boundaries. Jack is so supportive of Raff, and helps him a lot, which shows us the qualities of being a great friend."
- Rachel
"Harmony week is a great way to get to know each other in different ways. You might be from a different country or might have different beliefs. The book shows us that having a disability shouldn't get the better of you. You can always be friends with someone, a disability shouldnt matter."
- Henry
"I think Harmony week is a time to live together and in peace. I liked the book Two Mates, because even though Jack and Raff have differences, like skin colour and Raff being in a wheelchair, it didn't stop their friendship."
- Gwennie
