ST JOSEPH'S SCHOOL SWIM CARNIVAL

On Friday, 28th February, ALL students from Years 3-6 travelled to Yawa by buses to take part in the School Swimming Carnival dressed in our bright house colours!!

The aim of the day was to have fun, represent our house and win points and ribbons and to challenge ourselves in each of the swimming events. There were 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly events.  These were the competitive events that all students could tryout in and have a chance to be selected from the results to get into the School Swim Team that will compete at the District Swimming Championships this Friday against the other nine schools.

There were also lots of non-competitive races for everyone to enjoy and to choose to compete in. There was the expectation that every  student would swim in at least one race, but most students went in about 3 races, while some went in 6. The fun races were 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke, noodle races and kickboard races.  Students received a ribbon for each swim they did and earned points for their house as well.

At the end, the teachers all had to pick ONE student each for a Spirit Award from the way they showed responsible behaviour, team spirit, encouragement and a positive attitude across the day.  The following students were selected and earnt 20 house points for their team, WHICH CHANGED THE OUTCOME OFF THE WINNING TEAM! Well done to Zara A, George, Malakai, Emme, Viv, Maisy, Summer and Isabella

When all the points were added up at the end of the races and including the Spirit Award points, this year Bunurong had to pass the shield onto another house team…….this year,  with a score of 420 points was……. MAZENOD!

DISTRICT TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

What a warm, but great day our School Tennis Team had on Wednesday, 5th March as they represented St Joseph's School at Rosebud Tennis Club against the nine other schools.  Well done to Maggie, Isabella, Olivia, Flynn, Charlie and Jeremy on their selection to represet our school.  Isabella Willcock made the semi-finals and all others were close contenders to this achievement, mostly finishing 3rd in their group.  Thanks to Kym and Sophie for helping out on the day.  See the results and photos.

Our Swim Squad Breakfast on Wednesday. Thanks to Domenica and Giulia for their cooking!

After our Annual Swim Squad Breakfast on Wednesday morning where we had our Swim Cap Presentation we were set to go for the next step.  Special thanks to Domenico and Giulia for the lovely breakfast.  St Joseph's School Swim Team were then primed and ready to dominate at last Friday's Phillip District Swimming Championships at Yawa against all other nine schools in the district. We qualified for the Division Swimming Championships to be held on Wednesday 26th March in 17 out a possible 31 events. This strong presence of our students continually shows how the hard work and effort pays off with students taking part in St Joey's Swim Squad sessions, our Intensive School Swimming Programs and additional work put in by some of our students in their early morning Flyers sessions. Though we are a little school, we are filled with big-hearted students! We couldn't be prouder of all of our swim team members, emergencies and swim squad participants.
