Class 3/4 with Kathryn

Writing from our Hearts! 

 

In English this term we have been completing an author study on ‘Alison Lester’ and discussing what it means to ‘Plan for Success’ in our writing.  

We have been partner-reading Alison Lester books and discussing what is happening in each story. We have also been identifying the key structural elements like the orientation (that’s where we learn about the characters and setting), the rising action, the climax to the story (the most exciting part) and then the solution and conclusion to the story… yes we do love a satisfying ending to a story!

We have also been learning about different types of characters like heroes and villains. In the Alison Lester books we have been analysing the main character and thinking about what they look like on the inside (character traits) and the outside (character appearance), and how they feel (character feelings).

To help us with our ideas, we created ‘Writing from our Hearts’ posters which show the people we care about, the places we have lived or visited, our favorite memories and things we do in our free time. We use these to come up with our own great stories. We can't wait to publish our own picture story books this term.   

At assembly on Friday grade 3/4 students presented posters and carefully told everyone all about the main character in their story. We hope you like them 😊
