The annual National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) began this week, for students in years 3 and 5. Over the next two weeks, students will complete assessments in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language (spelling & grammar) and Numeracy. Students who are absent for any of the assessments, will have an opportunity to participate in catch up sessions. Please prioritise your child's participation in NAPLAN, as this is a key data set, which the department uses to assess school performance.
While the Year 3s and 5s have been doing NAPLAN, the Year 4s have been busy planning some new lunchtime clubs. This will include a drama club, various sports activites, and a board game/puzzle club. We're excited to see our year 4's lead these activities and am sure they will be well supported by students.
Next Thursday, our school will celebrate Harmony Day. This will include classroom activities, as well as participation in a multi-cultural dance program. In the afternoon, we will showcase this learning for families, so we hope you can join us from 2.30pm. During the day, we will be joined by Falls Creek Primary School, to share in this special opportunity to explore and celebrate inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
As a result of recent fundraising activities, our school has just purchased a new set of maths mentor texts, for teachers to use in the classroom. Thanks to Megan, these are now in the process of being covered, and will soon be ready for classroom use.
On Friday, with the help of some of our Year 6 students, Heather filmed a short video about what has been happening in the school. If you haven't already seen this video, please check out our facebook page. Many thanks to Heather for her work on this and to everyone who assisted her. We are very fortunate to have this sort of talent in our school, and this is just the first of a series of videos we have planned to promote the great learning that is happening in our school.
