Library News

I can’t believe we are half way through term one! Lunch times have been colourful and i have many regulars on the beanbags. A little gang of grade 4 & 5s have been assisting me and have been excellent ambassadors of the school’s values: care and responsibility while showing such kindness and generosity with each other and the younger students. It’s been heartening to watch. Thanks to Taylor, Sonny, Molly, Austin and Leyla I.

The biggest bookworms of the month are: (preps) Albert, Milo, Jack and Jude; (1-2) Beatrix, Sevy, Aren, Violet, James and Dash; (3-4) Edi, David, Leyla and Issach; (5-6) Nancy, Rebecca, Daniela, Sonny, Nellie and Florence.

Scholastic book-club goodies have arrived and should hopefully be with your child by Friday afternoon. Too Cool for School—a brief graphic novel about the escapades of a pizza slice and a taco have proven irresistible and was the most-ordered title by our kids.

Next Friday NPS will celebrate International Women’s Day. There are so many wonderful books by women and many that celebrate women and girls. I will be encouraging borrowing from these selections.

The CBCA (Children’s Book Council of Australia) 2025 notable books have been announced. We have quite a few on hand, with more to come soon. Congrats to Andrew Macdonald, one of our parents, who made the list. The finalists are announced on 15 August to coincide with Book Week celebrations.

Vanessa Hamilton’s ‘Talking the Talk’ webinar was an excellent resource afforded to our families. We do have quite a few books from her reading list. The library is open on Wednesdays after school until 4pm each week.

Like a mindful activity? We enlist book-covering helpers from our parent-carer community from time to time. If you enjoy contacting books, get in touch to take a pile home. There’s the perk of seeing what is new to the library and you and your kiddo having a first read. If you’re interested please catch me or email me.

If you have any questions or suggestions do get in touch. I love to have a chat.
