Sports Day

Sports Day is just around the corner, and we often receive many questions about the event. Below is the essential information for 2025.

Many people have attended our Sports Days in the past, and although the day will be run similarly to previous years, there may be some slight changes.

Sports Day will take place on 4th April, on both the town oval and school oval. Students are encouraged to wear their team colours for the day. This includes coloured tops and shorts, as well as the option for students to use coloured hair spray and even face paint. Please ensure all clothing is sun-smart, meaning that shoulders should be covered. Sun-smart hats are to be worn between events; this means no baseball caps.

The day will start with an opening ceremony, including an acknowledgment of country, as well as the team march, chants, and health hustle. Once the event has been officially opened, classes will move to their first events. Each event will last for 15 minutes before moving to the next one. Teams will earn points based on their performance during each event. There are two types of events: tabloid and athletic. The older classes will complete 11 events, while the younger classes will do 10. In some events, ribbons will be awarded for achievement based on athletic ability.

The events will run from the start of the day until the second lunch break. The day will conclude with individual sprints, a whole-school relay, a teachers vs. students event, and a final round of chants. Please see the attached draft timetable for the day.

Eating Times

Sports Day is an exciting event for everyone, but we would appreciate your help in following these expectations. When students have lunch breaks, they will be permitted to play in the school yard. Please do not take your child with you if you decide to go elsewhere for food. Instead, please join us on the school oval during playtime. The Willow Café will be open for snacks and drinks.

At the end of playtime, students will be required to return to class for eating time. This ensures that teachers can confirm all students have eaten, are accounted for, and are prepared for the next part of the day. Please make sure they return to class when the bell rings. You can meet your child at their first event after the break.

Help

In the coming week, teachers will most likely send out a SeeSaw message asking for assistance on the day. This may involve helping with the scoresheet, raking the sandpit in long jump, marking throws, running, and placing in races. We would appreciate it if people are willing to volunteer, even for a small amount of time, as this will help ensure the smooth running of the day.

If you have any further questions, please contact me at the school, and I will answer your questions as best as I can.
