Collaboration

We're enjoying our focus on being collaborative this term, and we are seeing evidence of collaboration and teamwork all around us!

This week nine of our students in Years 4-6 joined me to participate in the online Chief Executive Student Forum.  The Chief Executive of the Department for Education Martin Westwall is seeking input from young people from every school, to inform schools' work with the new Department Strategy for Education, focussing on the areas of Learner Agency, Equity and Excellence, Effective Learners and Wellbeing.  Our school has set a goal in the area of Learner Agency for this year, in our Site Learning Plan. We are excited to see where this will lead us.

Here's what some of the students had to say about the Forum:

We went to a conference with most of the schools in south Australia, and we used some learner action cards to show opinions of what we think we should learn. We learnt about Learning and Performance mode. In Learning mode, a piece of advice would help a lot, but while in Performance mode you might feel a bit stressed because you feel like you need to get everything correct. We did some maths activities. The first one was a picture of some squares all bunched up, we had to agree on a person to figure out how many squares there were. The rest stayed silent, while that person figured it out. That person felt like they were in the Performance mode because everyone was looking at them. The second one was a pyramid of triangles and we had to find them all. This time we could all figure it out together. It was so much easier because we could all work together and be collaborative. We think that it’s much easier when you don’t have that much pressure on you.

Collaboration in the bases

I'm always amazed at the teamwork that goes into creating the imaginary worlds at school more commonly known as the 'bases'. Base building is great fun, but can sometimes be a source of conflict. We find if we empower students to solve the issues that arise (such as people 'stealing' pallets and gumnuts from bases or deciding whether to join bases with others), they learn a great deal about how to negotiate and collaborate towards a positive outcome for all. Here's some great base collaboration I witnessed this week:

Feedback re change of eating times

You may remember that we have been trialling a change to eating times this term, with students eating after their breaks rather than before. We'd now like to hear your opinion about these changes. Please follow this link to complete a short 2 question form to help us decide whether to continue with these changes. Thank you!  😊

Sustainability Fair

Students had a wonderful time at the Sustainability Fair on Sunday, showing off their artworks made with recycled materials, and participating in sustainable activities such as finger knitting, making lavender bags and origami from recycled paper. Thank you to Suzie Tume who worked with the students this term to create the artworks and set up and managed the stall all day.

Thank you also to the parent helpers Emma Grosvenor, Amanda Preskett, Catherine Simpson, Elizabeth Williams, Emily Brodie-Tyrrell, Jo Higginson, and Jolie Thomas; and student helpers Kobe Sloan, Louie Griffiths, Victor Simpson, Maddi Johansen, Vincenzo Pollifrone, Adelaide Williams, Edward Croser-Barlow, Olivia Hofmeyer, Louise Stewart, Ned Griffiths, Klara Kiessling, Jemima Staniford, Jacob Koay, Gus Brodie-Tyrrell and Maud Thomas.

A wonderful day was had by all, and we couldn't have done it without you!

Super host Louie!

Congratulations to Louie Griffiths who has been selected to host 2 performances of the Festival of Music choir at the Entertainment Centre later this year. Louie had to compete against 80 other students from around the state for this special role; what a star! We are excited to see Louie on the big stage. 🤩

JAM Band- always a highlight!

More collaboration in action!!

We look forward to seeing you here for Learning Discussions next week.

Have a wonderful fortnight everyone! 😊
