Hello Kingswood Community,

What a wonderful start to the year we have had in the garden! All classes began with a garden walk, taking in the sights, smells and sounds of our thriving space.

Many students responded with our Habit of Mind of awe and wonderment when they discovered cucumbers nestled among the leaves and marvelled at how they had climbed their way up the towering sunflowers.

Our Summer garden is bursting with colour and life, growing an incredible variety of produce, including tri-coloured zucchini, beans, corn, pumpkins, potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, basil and of course, sunflowers. Students have eagerly taken part in harvesting many of these vegetables, bringing excitement and enthusiasm to every lesson.

It’s hard to miss the brand-new chicken coop, a fantastic addition to our program! This wouldn’t have been possible without the success of our market stalls and the continued support of our school community. Every dollar raised helps us care for our beloved hens, ensuring they have a safe and happy home.

Another standout in the garden right now is the abundance of sunflowers. Their size and variety are truly a delight to the eye, and we are fortunate that, at the time of writing, the cockatoos haven’t discovered them yet! If you haven’t had the chance, I encourage you to take a stroll through the garden and enjoy these golden beauties while they last.

Finally, a gentle reminder: All the fruit and vegetables grown at Kingswood are first and foremost for our students to use as part of their learning experience. Recently, I’ve noticed some adults helping themselves to cucumbers and pomegranates. While we love sharing our produce, we kindly ask that everyone wait for the market stall, where any surplus is made available for purchase. This ensures that all students have the opportunity to engage with the garden’s bounty and that funds raised go directly toward caring for our hens.

Thank you for your ongoing support and happy gardening!
