At the whole term Assembly on Monday it was great to hear the happenings around the school from the different groups of students.
Attendance is important to the College. We know that 90% attendance is needed to allow students to achieve to their potential. Only 34 students had attended all their classes up until the mid-point of the term. We would like to see this number increase going forward. Our mid-term draw was undertaken by our Junior Captains, Tom and Tom, and Eve Mulquiny was the lucky attendee.
Yesterday, Tuesday March 4th, we were fortunate to have the Immunisation Team from the Buloke Shire visit our school to administer vaccinations to our Year 7 and Year 10 students.
As Susannah and Elly were signing out at the office at the end of their visit, they took a moment to express their appreciation for our students. They were very impressed by the behavior and attitude of our Year 7 and 10s, describing them as a great group of kids who were not only cooperative but also very respectful throughout the entire process. It's always wonderful to hear such positive feedback, Well Done Year 7 & 10 for showing our school values!
Monday March 17th the College AGM will be held in the staffroom at 7pm. We will be looking for new parent representatives to support the College moving. Council terms are for two years with the opportunity to be apart of sub-committees. If you have any questions please contact myself or Troy Heenan.
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. All students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
The tests provide parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests.
NAPLAN tests also provide schools, education authorities and governments with information about how education programs are working and whether young Australians are meeting important educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy.
If your child regularly utilises adjustments in their classroom, it may be possible for these to be used.
Staff have been familiarising students with the online site and format of the tests. A Public demonstration site provides sample tests should you wish to gain an insight into what the students will undertake.
Testing begins next Wednesday. The following schedule will be followed:
Wednesday 12th March | Thursday 13th March | Friday 14th March
Year 3, 5, 7 & 9 Writing | Year 9 Reading | Year 3, 5 & 7 Reading
Monday 17th March | Wednesday 19th March
Year 3, 5, 7 & 9 Language Conventions | Year 3, 5, 7 & 9 Numeracy |
I have accepted the Principal role at Rushworth P-12 College, the timing of this news is not great as the start date is term 2. The decision behind this has not been one that I have taken lightly, it is entirely based on my family’s needs and how I can best support them into the future.
I have loved my time at Charlton and will continue to do so for the next 5 weeks. Charlton is an amazing community; this is reflected in the students and all the amazing outcomes that are achieved by the students.
I will do this individually, but I would like to formally thank the school council for the continued support of myself and the school community over the past four years. The leadership team at the college have been amazing and so have all the staff, the dedication shown to the students has made coming to work each day a joy.
To all the students I wish you all the best and know you will all achieve great things while you are at Charlton College and into the future no matter what path you choose to take.
School Council and Department staff will follow a rigorous appointment process to find the best fit for the College moving forwards. If you have any questions please contact Troy Heenan or myself.
Thank you
