As the end of a very busy term draws near, we are still in full flight with a number of things happening around the college in what has been and busy but exciting term
Discovery Evening
- Our annual Discovery Expo was held on Tuesday the 18th. Our faculties all put on amazing and interactive displays to showcase the wonderful work that occurs daily within the college. It was great to meet the visiting and prospective families within our community. Thank you to all the staff and student volunteers who contributed to the evening, and a special thank you to Mr Ladnjak for his role in coordination and organising of the event.
- If you or anyone you know were unable to make our Discovery Expo, please feel free to contact the school to arrange a tour and to discuss any concerns or queries you may have.
NAPLAN
- From the 12th to the 18th of March our students in year 7 and 9 have been making their way through the NAPLAN assessments for 2025. It has been a mammoth undertaking, however with thanks to our incredible staff and IT team it has been a resounding success. A special mention to Ms Snowball for her coordination of the sessions, and to all staff for their support in ensuring that the sessions ran smoothly. And also, a big thank you to Mr Georgiopoulos, Ms Nguyen and Mr Labigang for their IT support throughout the testing. Well done to all year 7 and year 9 students on their efforts and behaviour during this time.
Harmony Week
- Harmony week was celebrated from Monday the 17th to Friday the 21st of March. The college has been packed full of events each day from sporting activities, gardening, eSports and finally our Cultural Dress Day. It was wonderful to see our students celebrating their culture and looking amazing in their outfits for the day.
Athletics Day
- Our school Athletic day will be occurring on Tuesday the 1st of April. It is a wonderful day and opportunity for students to involve themselves in a variety of athletic events, to represent and earn points for their houses, as well as socialise and support their peers. We are looking forward to the fun and relaxed day and seeing what our students can achieve.
Immunisations
- Year 10 immunisations will be occurring on Tuesday 29th of April. Year 10 students will be collected from class and asked to attend the Hall to receive their immunisation if parent have provided consent. The year 10 students receive one dose of the Nimenrix (Meningococcal ACWY) vaccine. More details will be provided to families via compass.
Student Leaders
- Last week in our assemblies, our junior school students who were successfully appointed to leadership positions were awarded their badges and officially recognised. Congratulations to all our SRC Leaders, Class Captains, STEM Leaders, Arts leaders and House Captains. I look forward to seeing your involvement as leaders and engaged in your roles across the college in 2025.
Behaviour in the yard
- Over the course of term one, staff across the college have noticed some behaviours in the school yard from a variety of students that is contributing to creating an unsettled environment and has the potential to see further issues arise. Antisocial behaviour is regularly discouraged and attended to by teachers on yard duty, and report to student management where required. Over the recent weeks we have noticed an increase in students gathering in large groups and not following staff instructions to disperse, and/or feeling the need to argue and debate when asked to do so. It is a small percentage of student engaging these behaviours, and individual students have been spoken with, and plans are in place to manage students who are directly involved in contributing to creating a potentially unsafe environment and not following staff instruction. All students have been spoken to in assemblies with regards to their general attitude and behaviour at school in the classroom and in the yard, and their role in creating the positive and safe environment that all students deserve to be a part of whilst attending Lalor Secondary College. Students have been made aware that any students that are engaging in mob/gang/group mentality will be addressed and managed accordingly. Please feel free to speak to your child at home and support the messaging around expected behaviours and standards at school the roles and responsibilities they have in creating the environment they would like to be a part of at LSC.
School Drop-off/Pick-up
- It has been brought to my attention by members of the local community that at times, people are parking in, on or over driveways of those that live within close proximity of the school during pick up and drop off times. Therefore I ask for your assistance and cooperation and to please be considerate of those that live within the school area and refrain from parking across driveways and restricting access to property.
