Principal's Report

A reminder to families that Thursday 19th March is a student free day. Staff will be participating in professional development on this day.
3-6 Interhouse Athletics
Last Tuesday we had our grade 3-6s enjoy the athletics carnival. The day was very warm, but that didn’t seem to deter anyone or stop the students from having a fun day. Well done to Claire Morris for organising the event and to all of our staff and parent volunteers who did a great job looking after groups of students and running events. The Loretto girls were also a big help in running events.
The kids certainly had a great day, enjoying each other’s company and the competition. It was reassuring to see the attitude displayed by our students, each giving their best in a sportsmanlike manner. The behaviour of the kids was outstanding, meaning staff and other helpers were able to enjoy interacting with the kids throughout and focus on the sport. It was also nice to see so many parents and extended family members at the event to support the students.
At the whole school assembly on the last day of term (Thursday April 2), Ms Morris will present the shield to the winning team, acknowledge students that broke records and were age group champions.
As always, we will have a strong contingent of students attend the district athletics carnival, to be held on March 30 and we wish all involved the best of luck.
Industrial Action
The Australian Education Union has called on its members to take strike action on Tuesday March 24. By the morning of Monday March 23, we will know how this action will impact on the school and will communicate this via-Compass. It is likely that some classes and/or grade levels will not run on March 24, so please look out for this communication.
Works to conserve the old pool walls in the botanic gardens
Some of you will have noticed works that have been happening to the heritage swimming baths up the east end of the gardens. In recent weeks, workers have been clearing the site, but this week construction works to repair the structure have commenced.
For the duration of these works, some parking spaces will be roped off, but access for traffic will remain in Cornish and Yuille streets.
Chess Club
Chess Club for 2026 has started! Our first session was packed with keen students, which was fantastic to see. We look forward to some weekly games where students can extend their existing skills or learn to play Chess.
