"A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." Antoine de Saint-Exupéry,

Students across the TAS faculty have been actively engaging in a range of practical learning experiences throughout Term 2.

Our Year 8 Technology Mandatory students have been developing their food preparation and presentation skills through the creation of nutritious and creative smoothie bowls. Our Year 10 Food Technology students recently put their hospitality skills into action by catering for the school’s Alumni Lunch. Students worked collaboratively to prepare and present food for guests, gaining valuable real-world experience in food preparation, organisation and customer service. The event was a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase the practical skills they have developed in the classroom.

Students have been given the opportunity to participate in a range of enriching HPGE programs designed to extend their skills, creativity and career awareness across a variety of industries.

Our Sewing Club has provided students with the opportunity to develop practical textile skills while encouraging creativity and sustainability. Students have enjoyed creating new items as well as learning how to mend and reuse clothing, promoting environmentally responsible practices through hands-on learning.

Students also attended the Construction and Architecture Uni Steps Excursion hosted by University of Newcastle. Throughout the day, lecturers and current university students delivered a series of engaging mini lectures and practical activities, giving students valuable insight into university life. The experience introduced students to a range of exciting career pathways including construction, project management, quantity surveying and architecture. We look forward to future opportunities for our students.

In addition to the amazing opportunities already mentioned, students participated in the STEM Aero Manufacturing Program, where 17 students had the unique opportunity to manufacture a real aerospace component using carbon fibre materials. Led by Professor Joe Bryant from AeroMech Australia, the program inspired students to explore future pathways in Advanced Composite Manufacturing within Australia. Students were also provided with valuable connections to industry professionals in the aerospace and defence sectors, helping turn student passion and curiosity into real-world opportunities within this rapidly growing industry.
