你好 nǐ hǎo to our wonderful community!
Students across all year levels are continuing to make wonderful progress in their Chinese learning. It has been exciting as they slowly build their knowledge of high-frequency words, topic-based vocabulary, and the basic strokes used in Chinese writing.
At times, students with a Chinese language background have been taking on a special role as ‘experts’, helping to explain tones, Hanzi, Pinyin, and basic strokes in English. This not only strengthens their own understanding but also helps all students develop a deeper appreciation of different languages and cultures.
In the junior primary, students are enthusiastically learning the names of the 12 zodiac animals, practising numbers 1–10 and exploring the basic strokes that form the building blocks of Chinese characters.
Foundation: Our youngest learners are exploring the four tones in Chinese and sharpening their listening skills as they learn to differentiate between tones through reading aloud, copying from teacher - Huang Laoshi.
Grade 1: Our Grade 1 students were thrilled to experience a live lion dance performance! A special thanks to 1B Milo,1C Felix K and family for bringing in a lion head and drum set from home to share this exciting cultural experience. We would also like to thank 1B Patrick W and 1C Ollie D for their dedication in practising with Milo and Felix outside of school hours, making it possible for them to confidently perform in front of their classmates with Milo and Felix.
Grade 2: Students have been learning how to construct Hanzi and are enthusiastically applying their newly acquired writing skills on mini whiteboards. They have shown impressive focus and fine motor control, well done!
Our senior primary students continue to impress us with their growing fluency through their Chinese rap! They are performing like pros, bringing fantastic energy, confidence, and rhythm to rap in Chinese. It’s wonderful to see them chanting so enthusiastically, complete with actions and groove (Videos are uploaded on Seesaw for some classes)! They are also expanding their topic vocabulary and becoming more confident in writing Hanzi.
Fantastic and wonderful effort across all year levels - keep it up, everyone! 💖💖
