Yr 2 Toys over Time Incursion
During the Toys Over Time: Supreme Incursion, the Grade 2 students enthusiastically explored how toys have changed from the past to the present. Students enjoyed the session and loved investigating and handling toys from long ago, comparing them with the toys they use today. The incursion provided an engaging and hands-on learning experience that helped students develop their understanding of history and how people's lives and play experiences have changed over time.
Yr 3 National Surfing Museum Excursion
On Monday 18 May, our students visited the Surfworld Museum. We began our tour by looking at an impressive 60kg wooden surfboard, which helped students understand how much surfboard design has changed over time.
We then explored the famous Bells trophies and learned that champion surfer Stephanie Gilmore has won an incredible ten of them. In the next gallery, students enjoyed seeing a wide range of surfboard shapes and sizes, including one shaped like a Paddle Pop ice cream, which was a clear favourite.
Our visit continued in the theatre, where we watched surfers riding gigantic waves. Students were fascinated to learn that Kelly Slater donated one of his Bells trophies to the Wadawurrung people to acknowledge his connection to land and sea.
To finish, we viewed a collection of wetsuits, leg ropes and surf wax, giving students a closer look at the equipment surfers use today.
It was a highly engaging and informative excursion, and the students came away with a deeper appreciation of surfing history and culture.
