7J are an energetic group of students with lots of creative ideas and stories to share.

In English we are currently working on persuasive writing, identifying what makes a strong argument to communicate a convincing statement. Students are building their understanding of how to use a combination of emotion, logic, and language skills, to motivate an audience for an intended purpose.

SCIENCE
Our Year 7 students have been busy exploring ecosystems through an exciting research project focused on an organism of their choice. Many students have chosen fascinating native Australian species, including the Red Kangaroo, Tasmanian Devil, and many others.
Throughout the project, students have maintained a research logbook, recording their findings and tracking their progress each lesson. They are now using their research to create informative and visually engaging A3 posters, either digitally or by hand.
It has been wonderful to see students embrace the independence and responsibility that comes with managing a long-term project. By working through their checklists and bringing their equipment to class, they have developed valuable research, organisation, and self-management skills while deepening their understanding of ecosystems and biodiversity.

HUMANITIES
This year 7J have developed their historical skills though a unit on Ancient Australia. In this unit we looked at the Out of Africa Theory and the early settlement of Australia. We have continued to build on these skills in the Ancient Egypt unit, looking at the role of the mighty Nile River, the social hierarchy, religion and funeral practices including mummification along with the technology used to build the pyramids. We also started using and developing our geography and mapping skills in a unit called Water in the World where we built a series of base and overlay maps and then answered questions about them. Later in the year we branch out to look at economics and business and civics and citizenship units.

TEXTILES
7J has been busy sewing and completing their unique aprons. Most students are still in the process of completing their aprons. Shaw brought his grandmother’s award-winning quilt to our Textiles Technology class on Tuesday. Shaw wanted to do a show and tell. His grandmother was more than happy to support him in this endeavour. The students enjoyed looking at this incredible quilt with all the detail that was stitched so perfectly. We talked about the precision of cutting, measuring and working out a pattern for a large quilt like that. The students were quiet and admired this amazing quilt.

MATHS
7J explored measurement concepts, developing their understanding of length, volume and capacity through practical activities.
