At the beginning of this term, I thought this would be a very long term with 11 and ½ weeks ahead of us, but time really flies when there are so many exciting things happening! I will have to go back about two weeks and reflect on the CPS FETE that was held on Saturday 18 December. This was our first FETE in four years and it definitely came back bigger and it was so lovely to see many of our families enjoying time together on our school ground. We had many of our former students and parents visited us on the day which was really lovely opportunity for us to have our current and previous families together and formed one big school community together. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the FETE committee who spent almost 12 months preparing for a big day! Our students had so much fun and we raised a significant amount of funds to improve our school grounds. Thank you!

今学期は１１週間半という長い学期ではありましたが、あっという間に１２月になってしまいました。２週間ほど遡りますが、１１月１８日にCPSフェートが開催されました。４年ぶりとなったこのイベントでは、たくさんの生徒や保護者の方にご参加頂き、大成功を遂げることができました。また、たくさんの卒業生やその保護者の方々も来校くださり、現在と過去の生徒や保護者が共存する、というとても素敵な時間になりました。フェート実行委員として総力を上げてくださった保護者の方々にお礼を申し上げます。

Transition to the new school year at CPS

We are about to conclude the five-week process of creating the new classes for 2024 and on Friday 15 December, our students will spend one hour each with their new English and Japanese teacher. This will provide our students with a bit of insight of what their 2024 classroom will look like and have an initial interaction with their new teachers. Between now and then, our teachers will go through a process of handing over student information about their information. This includes their academic achievements, challenges or their wellbeing needs. ５週間に渡る学級制作のプレセスも終盤を迎えております。１２月１５日には、生徒たちが２０２４年のクラスの英語、日本語の先生たちと１時間ずつ新しい教室でアクティビティをします。１時間という短い時間ではありますが、新しいクラスを体験する機会となります。それまでの間に、教員たちは生徒たちに関する大切な情報（学習進度、ウェルビーングサポートの必要性など）を新年度の先生たちに引き継ぎます。

This week, I have visited Miss Guzman’s Y1/2 English classroom where students were presenting their arguments about a certain topic. One of the students told me that they have been learning about persuasive text, focussing on the differences between facts and opinions. One group has prepared their argument for the prompt question “Is video game good for children?” and here are their arguments. Scroll down for the photos! 今週は、グッズマン先生の教室を訪ねてきました。現在１・２年生の英語の授業では、説得文の勉強をしていて、事実と意見の違いに焦点を当てているそうです。私が訪ねた際には、「ビデオゲームは子どもたちにいいものか？」という議題で討論を行なっていました。生徒たちの意見を聞いてみました。

Harper: Video games are good for children because they can get creative.　

Sophia: Video games are good for children because they are SO fun.　

Levi B: Video games are good for children because they cannot “break their brain”.　。

Another student said “video games are good for children because when you come home from a very stressful day at school, you might want to play video games and that might get your stress level down.　

Willow: Video games are not good for children because that can damage your eye sight.

Hina: Video games are not good for children because you can become blind.

Milla C: Video games are not good for children because that can make you crazy.

ハーパー：クリエイティブになれるから、ビデオゲームは子どもたちにとっていいものだと思います。

ソフィア：とても楽しいから、ビデオゲームは子どもたちにとっていいものだと思います。

リーバイB：脳を壊すなんてことはないから、ビデオゲームは子どもたちにとっていいものだと思います

また、一人の生徒は、「ステレスな１日を終えて帰宅した時に、ビデオゲームをすることによってリラックスできるかもしれないから、ビデオゲームは子どもたちにとっていいものだと思います。」と話してくれました。

ウィロー：視力が悪くなるかもしれないから、ビデオゲームは子どもたちにとってよくないものだと思います。

ひな：盲目になってしまうかもしれないから、ビデオゲームは子どもたちにとってよくないものだと思います。

ミラC：クレイジーになってしまうかもしれないから、ビデオゲームは子どもたちにとってよくないものだと思います。
