Year 8 Gravity Racers

Students in year 8 Materials Technology classes were introduced to mechanical systems by designing a timber racer powered by gravity. Students had free choice for their design, with some racers based on actual vehicles, while others were based on more organic shapes such as animals or food. Students were required to demonstrate safe use of tools and machinery, including the Band Saw, Belt Sander, Disc Sander, and Spindle Sander. Students enjoyed the racing component of the process, with Rhys (8C), Levi (8D), and Zac (8K) winning their class races, and Liam (8C), Rhodes (8D), and Isaac (8K) winning best in show.

Year 9 Clocks

Students in year 9 Materials Technology were given free choice to design a Clock based on something within their life. Their designs were based on animals, art, astronomy, film, sport, or video games, and many students incorporated laser cutting and/or engraving into their design. Students were required to demonstrate safe use of tools and machinery, including the Angle Grinder, Band Saw, Belt Sander, Biscuit Jointer, Disc Sander, Jigsaw, MIG Welder, Mitre Saw, Orbital Sander, Palm Router, Spindle Sander, and Thicknesser.
