Cultural Day
On Thursday, 16th November our Student Representative Council organised a Cultural Day, where students could bring a gold coin donation and wear orange or their cultural clothing to school.
I came to Pakenham Secondary College last year in second semester from Samoa and was very happy to be involved in the Day.
My sister, Emma and I performed a dance at lunchtime in the courtyard. The dance is called ‘Siva Samoa’, which is about being proud of our home country, Samoa.
I tried some of the food that was offered, and thought that it was great that they had different food from different cultures. There were Vegetable Gyozas and Falafel Pita Pockets available for students to buy.
There were other things happening on the day, such as dot painting and Indigenous games, but because I was already involved in the dancing, I couldn’t go to these things. I hope to be able to next year.
One thing I would like them to do for the next Cultural Day is to have more dances from different cultures. We could have a Samoan Dance, followed by lots of different dances from different student’s countries. They could also have music performances from students who play an instrument or sing, of music from around the world.
I think it is great that our College celebrates Cultural Day. I am very proud of my background and I want to celebrate this and show people. It was wonderful that so many students dressed up for the day.

We would like to thank our Student Representative Council for organising such a fantastic day and also thank our community for your kind donations. We raised $369.25, which will be given to SEED, a youth run Indigenous organisation that works to help combat climate change.
