At the Sports Awards Presentation on Tuesday, we recognised and acknowledged over 100 students from the College who demonstrated outstanding success in their respective sporting fields throughout the school year. Congratulations to all students who received an award or acknowledgement.
While the Spots Award Presentation provided an opportunity to recognise the outstanding achievements of many students, I would also like to recognise and acknowledge the enormous number of SMCC students who choose to participate in numerous highly competitive sporting activities in 2023.
Throughout the 2023 school year, we saw:
I would like to offer a huge thanks to all of our incredible teachers and sport coaches who have supported our students this year, enabling them to excel in their chosen sporting fields.
A special highlight of the Sport Awards Presentation was the presence of Tahlulah Tillett, a St Mary's Alumni from the years 2011-2015 and current NRLW Cowboys player, who attended the occasion as a guest speaker and award presenter.
Following the event, Tahlulah was incredibly generous with her time. She shared stories from her inspiring career and her from time as student at SMCC, posed for photographs, signed autographs, and even participated in a friendly match on the SMCC oval with over 50 enthusiastic students.

The SMCC Rugby League team played a quality MacKillop Catholic College team on Wednesday. The Rugby League program will have a break over the school holidays and return in Term 1, 2024. Well done to all our boys, especially the 12 players who are new to Rugby League.
Thank you goes to Mr Slatcher, Mr Winter, and Mr Tutoe, for your efforts in supporting the students.
Well done to the St Mary's Catholic College community who participated and volunteered at 'parkrun' on Saturday, 11 November. Well done to Ms Robertson for organising and running the 5km in blistering pace.
Earlier this term, our SMCC Open Mixed Touch Football team toured to their first ever QLD All Schools event on the Gold Coast. Being the largest Touch Football event in the world with over 500 teams competing, our students were beyond excited to attend! It was a successful event for all, with the team winning 3 of their round games, and showing passion, grit, and resilience as they competed against some of the best touch football schools in Queensland. All those hill sprints and afternoon training sessions were worth it!
Our successful involvement at this event showcased how the College’s Touch Football program has grown in recent years and worked to develop our players. We’re excited to continue to do this next year, and hopefully to also tour to QLD All Schools again in 2024.
A huge thank you to Miss Lo Grande, Miss Kate Atwell, and Mr John Cahill for supporting our students in the lead-up to and whilst at the event.
We also wish to thank our sponsors:
St Mary’s Family Connect, UNGANCO, HC Building and Construction, EK Design Kitchens, DC Ceramic Tiling, InterGLAZE Glass & Aluminium, QIFVLS, RPM Enviro and 675 Coffee.
