Arrowsmith
The final weeks of the Arrowsmith Program at Oakleigh Grammar included two wonderful events.
The first was an excursion to the Dandenong Ranges for a ride on the famous ‘Puffing Billy’ steam train. For many students, this was the first time on the train. As the train chugged its way through the picturesque forests of the ranges, students were able to wave to pedestrians and traffic and take in the marvellous views of the surrounding districts.
Our second event was our graduation ceremony held on Friday 24 November in the Conference Centre. Graduates entered the ceremony to the song, ‘Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow.’ A PowerPoint of photos from the year was shown accompanied by the song, ‘You are amazing.’ Two of the highlights of the ceremony was a speech by former student Jacinta Kimberley. Jacinta spoke of her initial struggles with schooling and how the Arrowsmith program transformed her learning and life.
A video was shown of the executive director of the Arrowsmith Program, Debbie Gilmore. Debbie elaborated upon the Arrowsmith Transforming Futures Award explaining the virtues of the recipient of the award, Abbey Murphy. Congratulations are extended to Abbey on receiving the award for 2023.
As another year comes to an end, I extend my sincere thanks to the staff of the Arrowsmith Program, the supportive families, and the amazing students. To all of our graduating students; Jaymes Lymbouris, Niamh Lester, Deacon Salis, Gabriel O’Connor, Adam Charalambous, Indy Smith, Samuel Aldworth and Savinu Ranasinghe- ‘Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow.’
On behalf of the Arrowsmith staff, we wish everyone a joyful and happy holiday season.
