Student Resource Scheme
The Student Resource Scheme has been implemented in The Gap State High School to ensure that all students have the necessary resources to support their educational requirements. It is a voluntary scheme that is intended to provide a more convenient and economical way for students to access required texts.
If you wish not to participate in the Student Resource Scheme, a list of additional subject fees and a textbook list can be provided. Parents and caregivers must put their wish not to participate in this scheme in writing.

Lost Property Items - Year Level Camps 2023
Deadline for collection of items – End of Week 9 2023 (1/12/23)
We have a large collection of items that have been left behind by students on year-level camps this year.
If your student is missing something, could you please have them visit the LTC to see if there is anything that belongs to them?
If items are not collected by 1/12/23 they will either be donated to charity or retained to be used as spare equipment in future camps.
CYOD Update
If you have been previously contacted about the transfer of ownership of your out-of-warranty CYOD laptop, please note that we will accept these devices to be reset until the end of this term.
If you are a CYOD parent and your student not returning to The Gap in 2024, please contact cyod@thegapshs.eq.edu.au to organise your device disassociation from the school.
Finally, if you missed out on joining the 2024 CYOD program intake and would like to participate, please reach out to cyod@thegapshs.eq.edu.au.
Sun Safety
We need your help!
Did you know that Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, and Queensland has the highest rate in Australia?
- In 2020, 49% of adults and 45% of children in Queensland reported being sunburnt in the previous 12 months
- Each year, more than 3,600 Queenslanders are diagnosed with melanoma—the most serious form of skin cancer (Queensland Government, 2022)
Students are required to wear school hats to participate in outdoor activities during class time and break times. Together with using sunscreen, this is the best way to help our young people reduce the risk of sunburn and skin cancer.
Break Times
One of the benefits of the recent changes to the department’s mobile phone policy is that we are seeing an increase in the number of students being active on the oval and handball courts during break times. However, a significant proportion of these students do not bring hats to school. Being active is really important for our students and we want this to continue but we also want students to be protected.
We need your help to ensure all students own a school hat and are encouraged to store it in their school bag, so it is always available. There are two types of school hats (cap and bucket hat) and these can be purchased from the uniform shop.
Curriculum Activities
Students are required to wear hats for all outdoor activities during curriculum time. This most commonly occurs in HPE and APP (all students in Years 7 to 11) but also occurs in other subjects and for excursions and camps.
Each year, the HPE and APP department lends hats to students to enable them to participate in outdoor curriculum activities. These hats regularly go missing and are an expense that could be spent on sporting equipment and other curriculum resources. Many of these hats mistakenly end up in student’s bags or lost in bedrooms at home.
To help us prepare for the start of the 2024 year, we are seeking the return of these borrowed hats. Can you please check to see if your child has an orange or white bucket hat at home and ask them to return it to school?
If students return an orange or white hat in the last 2 weeks of school, we will give them a Zooper Dooper to say thank you. Please return the hats to the LTC staffroom.
