Walker House Update

As the final bags are packed and the last goodbyes echo down the hallway, Walker House settles into a well-earned break — a chance to pause, reflect, and appreciate the year we have shared. 2025 has been a full, vibrant, and rewarding year in boarding, and we are incredibly proud of the community our students have continued to build.

Throughout the year, Walker House has been a place of connection, growth, and everyday moments that have shaped the character of our boarding community. From shared meals and weekend activities to study sessions, late-night conversations, and laughter drifting between rooms, our boarders have contributed to a culture that is supportive, respectful, and uniquely their own.

This year has also been rich with opportunity. Our students embraced camps, summer sports, inter-House activities, and co-curricular programs that strengthened friendships with their day-student peers. These experiences broadened their horizons, built confidence, and created memories that extend far beyond the walls of the house. The energy and enthusiasm they brought to school life were consistently impressive.

A significant moment in Term 4 was celebrating our Year 12 students as they completed their final days at School. The farewell dinner was a warm and heartfelt occasion — an opportunity to honour their contributions, acknowledge their leadership, and wish them every success as they move into an exciting new chapter. Their absence will be felt, but the legacy they leave will continue to shape the culture of Walker House.

This year also brings important staff transitions.

We extend our sincere thanks to Sam Norton, who has chosen not to continue in his role within the house next year. His steady presence and thoughtful approach have been valued by students and staff alike.

We also acknowledge Huntah Dare, a deeply invested and caring Residential Supervisor. Huntah’s warmth, approachability, and genuine care for our students have made a meaningful and lasting impact on life in boarding. While she is stepping away from her live-in residential role, we are delighted that she will not be lost to the house. Huntah will continue to support Walker House through casual supervising and tutoring, ensuring her connection with our community remains strong.

Looking ahead, there is already a sense of anticipation for 2026. We will welcome several new students to the Walker House family next year, many of whom have already visited. Their excitement and curiosity remind us of the fresh beginnings and opportunities a new year brings.

To our boarding families — thank you for your partnership, trust, and support throughout the year. To our students, whether you are returning or moving on, we are grateful for the character, humour, and spirit you bring to the house.

As we close the year, we wish every member of the Walker House and wider Friends’ community a happy, safe, and restful holiday break. We look forward to welcoming our returning boarders back in the new year and beginning another chapter in the life of our vibrant and ever-growing community.

Warm regards,
