Year 12 Society and Culture

Our Year 12 Society and Culture class kicked off their first PIP Student Session this week, marking an exciting beginning to their Personal Interest Project journey. This Initial session gave students the chance to brainstorm ideas, explore potential topics, and begin developing the foundations of their central research questions.

During the session, students met with teachers to discuss concepts, clarify expectations, and learn more about the research process they'll be undertaking over the coming months. Many took their first steps in planning methodologies, mapping out timelines, and identifying key areas for further investigations.

The atmosphere was positive and productive, with plenty of curiosity conversation, and early inspiration filling the room. This session set the tone for what promises to be an engaging and rewarding project ahead.

We’re excited to follow the progress of our Year 12s as they continue to shape their PIPs and delve deeper into issues that matter to them. A great start to a significant part of the Society and Culture course!

History Mastermind Competition

Huge congratulations to our amazing Stage 4 and Stage 5 students on their outstanding participation and results in this year’s HTA Mastermind competition.

Stage 4 students performed exceptionally well, with both our Year 7 and Year 8 teams making it all the way to the finals. Our Year 7 boys placed 4th, and our Year 8 boys came 3rd. A special shout-out to Yahya Shaikh for earning an individual prize in a noun quiz. Outstanding effort! While we were ultimately beaten by James Ruse and Penrith Selective, we are extremely proud to have been the only non-selective school with two teams in the finals. This success is a strong reflection of our students’ dedication, talent, and hard work.

Stage 5 students demonstrated remarkable determination and skill as they competed against over 100 teams in their category. Our Year 10 Team A delivered an impressive performance, achieving the best result from our school. All students showed strong teamwork, quick thinking, and deep knowledge throughout the competition, highlighting the exceptional quality of our students at this level.

This experience has inspired many of our Stage 4 and 5 students to take on new challenges and continue to develop their passion for learning and competition. We look forward to building on this success and encouraging even more students to participate and shine in next year’s HTA Mastermind competition. Well done to all involved!

Languages Faculty

Across Years 8 to 12, our students have continued to show dedication and genuine interest in their language studies. From mastering foundational skills in the earlier years to refining complex grammar and communication skills in the senior years, each cohort has demonstrated steady growth and a willingness to challenge themselves. Their curiosity, participation, and perseverance have been evident both in the classroom and through the many cultural activities offered throughout the year.

As we look ahead, we are excited to see this strong momentum carry into next year. We hope students return invigorated, ready to build on their achievements, explore new aspects of Japanese language and culture, and continue developing the confidence and capability that will support them well into their senior studies and beyond.

Miyagi Daiichi High School Visit

On Dec 4, we were delighted to once again welcome students and teachers from our sister school, Miyagi Daiichi High School in Sendai. Their visit was a true highlight of the year, offering rich opportunities for cultural exchange and shared learning. Students worked together in the kitchen to cook lamingtons, sample mini meat pies, and enjoy a classic sausage sanga. They also painted boomerangs while learning about Indigenous art and the meanings behind traditional symbols. Our Year 8 students proudly presented on aspects of Australian culture, and the Miyagi students were able to observe classes across a range of faculties, gaining insight into school life at Epping Boys High School. We extend our sincere thanks to all teachers and students involved for their support and enthusiasm in making this visit such a memorable experience for everyone.
