Principal’s Message

Dear Westbreen PS Families,

What a week we are having, and our students continue to amaze and astound all their teachers with the work that they are producing. This has ranged from persuasive letters from students relating to dress up days and students creating sculptures of clay. The learning experiences provided at Westbreen allow students to learn so many new things and build their curiosity.

Child safety and wellbeing at Westbreen Primary School: information for families and the school community.

Westbreen Primary School is committed to providing an environment where students are safe and feel safe.

Our child safety framework includes policies, codes and procedures that explain how we support and maintain the safety and wellbeing of our students and protect them from harm. These documents are available on our website: https://westbreenps.vic.edu.au/?page_id=4#policies

We are also committed to continuous improvement of our child safety framework. We are currently reviewing our child safety policies and practices to ensure they are up-to-date and effective.

Our students and families are important partners in this process. We welcome your feedback or ideas on ways we can improve our approach to child safety and wellbeing.

If you have any suggestions or comments, please send to our school email:

2026 Enrolments

Thank you to all the families who have already submitted their enrolment forms! We encourage our 2026 Foundation families to visit the office to complete the enrolment process by filling out the school enrolment form and providing evidence of their child's date of birth and immunisation record. To assist with planning, we kindly request that parents finalise their enrolments as soon as possible. If you have any questions or need clarification regarding the enrolment process, please contact Ms. Kerry Parfett, our Community and Enrolment Facilitator.

Semester Reports

We are approaching the end of semester two which means your students will be receiving another semester report. This will be made live in the final week of the term and will provide judgements on student achievements in the key learning areas that are covered each week. The end of year report provides the chance to celebrate all the learning success and to reflect on all the achievements in 2025. We encourage you to read the report with your child to share the learning journey and to discuss all the amazing things that have occurred in 2025.

School Council

Thank you to all members of the school council for 2025. We had our final meeting this week and celebrated another wonderful year as a group. The council provides valuable insights into the direction of the school and allows the views of the community to be considered in all decisions. We are such a strong community because of the community connection that we have, and the school council is a huge part of that. More information will come out at the beginning of 2026 for anyone who is eager to join the council and have a say in how we move forward as a school community.

School Captains 2026

I wanted to take the time to congratulate our two successful students who will be our 2026 school captains. The process to select these students was rigorous and highlighted the student leadership strength we have as a school. It was an extremely difficult decision to make as all the students who presented and interviewed did exceptionally well. The two successful applicants were Wren Solomano and Aahil Saheed. We know that Wren and Aahil will do an outstanding job in 2026 and will be the type of leaders that other students will aspire to be. I want to thank Rachel Davies for her time and effort in running the process as it allowed all the students to shine.

2025 Student Exits

We ask that you let us know if you are moving or have enrolled in another school in 2026. We require this information as soon as possible to establish grade structures for the start of the new school year. If your child is currently in Foundation- Year 5 and will not be at Westbreen Primary School in 2026.

Please notify westbreen.ps@education.vic.gov.au in writing as soon as possible.

Transition to 2026

It's that time of the year when we start preparing and organising class placements for 2026. This process is crucial as we want to ensure that each student is in an environment that supports their learning needs.

We will begin by grouping students based on their friendships, using a sociogram filled in by the students as stated through communication this week. Your support in having preliminary conversations with your child about this is greatly appreciated. We believe involving students, parents, and staff in this process will result in the best outcome for our students.

Here are the criteria we consider when establishing classes:

  • The children's individual learning capabilities
  • The known social, emotional, and physical stages of the individual child
  • Friendship groupings, ensuring that each student is placed with at least one friend from their sociogram
  • Balancing the number of males and females in each class
  • Addressing the needs of English as an additional language learners and other special needs
  • Creating classes with similar educational and behavioural profiles
  • Anticipating growth in class numbers
  • Ensuring compatibility of sub-groupings
  • Considering the students' ability to cope with change.

We will be having a Step Up Day in the final week of the term where students will find out their teacher for 2026 and who will be in their class. This will occur during the final session of the day and will be a highlight of the final week of 2025.

Curriculum Day

On Thursday the 4th of December, the school is having a curriculum day. Their Care will be open for a full day of service and bookings are now open.

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable week ahead. Thank you for your continued support.
