What's happening in the Senior Visual Arts classes?
Year 5/6 students have been working hard in Visual Arts this term to create softies for their Prep buddies, based on designs created by the Preps themselves. The work involved in this project showcases the skills the students have attained, and their attention to the smallest of details. There was even one softie that had individual mermaid scales attached! The 5/6s presented the softies to the Preps this week at a special buddy lunch, where there was great excitement and happiness at seeing the designs brought to life.
What's happening in STEM?
This term’s Science units have been lots of fun and super interesting!
Prep students have been exploring different materials and their properties. They tested a range of materials for sun protection and water resistance. As a result of their investigations, they determined that aluminium foil is suitable for protection from both sun and water, so they are making hats out of foil! They will finish making their hats next week.
Year 1/2 students have been learning about identifying and classifying animals and plants according to their features. Some activities included growing mung beans in cotton wool, and planting sunflower seeds in the school garden beds. 2C also planted some tomato seedlings that Lola and her family started growing at home.
Students in Year 3/4 have thoroughly enjoyed learning about rocks, minerals, crystals and gemstones. They studied specimens from Mme Wilson’s collection and chose some to research for a project. They learnt about different types of rocks and the chemical composition of various gemstones and crystals.
The Year 5/6 students have been learning about circuits, so experimenting with the Makey Makeys has been both educational and fun. Who would have thought that electricity can be conducted through playdough and the human body? They discovered that they could create large human circuits by touching each other’s arms, knees, noses and ears.
