From the Classroom

News from the Seniors
In English, the students have been writing an information report on the purpose of zoos after researching facts on different elements that zoos have. We focused on the structure and sequence of how information reports are styled and the purpose of them. We have continued to read our class novel 'The One and Only Ivan' and comprehending how authority is used throughout the story.
In Maths, we have been exploring a range of worded problems that connects to real-life situations. The worded problems involving all four operations enhances problem-solving skills and identifying what calculations are needed to solve a problem.
In science, we have begun a project with a partner having a 'Big Picture Question' focusing on our topic of physical science - electricity and circuits. In inquiry, we have begun another 'Passion Project' with a particular topic that both students are interested in and want to learn more about. It is great to see the team work skills and respecting others opinions while creating their project presentation.
BOYS NETBALL GALA DAY
A couple of weeks ago, some of the grade 4, 5, and 6 boys participated in a day of playing netball against a number of different schools. It was a fantastic day, the students were showing great team work skills and were encouraging and supporting our team mates. A big congratulations to Zephyr Allen for winning the Best and Fairest award in our division, what an amazing accomplishment and demonstrates our great sportsmanship from the day.
Middles News
In English, Middle A are beginning a new text: Survivors: Inspiring True Stories of Survival by Ben Hubbard. This engaging nonfiction book explores real-life accounts of people who have overcome extreme challenges, and it provides an excellent platform for building a range of literacy skills. Throughout this unit, students will focus on identifying theme, distinguishing fact from opinion and paraphrasing. Students will read a selection of stories, participate in discussions, and complete activities designed to deepen their comprehension and critical thinking.
After our fun week of camp and 'fun day' activities Middle B have returned to reading 'The Twits'. We are discovering what type of language choices helps us to describe a character.
In Maths, Middle A are continuing their work on multiplication. This unit focuses on developing confidence, accuracy and flexibility when working with multiplication facts and strategies. Students are learning to recall multiplication facts to 10 × 10 and apply them to a variety of problem, use efficient strategies, such as skip-counting, doubling, repeated addition, arrays and using known facts to solve unknown ones, model multiplication using concrete materials, visual representations and number sentences and apply multiplication skills to real-life contexts, including solving worded problems and exploring patterns. We are also encouraging students to explain their thinking and choose strategies that work best for them. Continued practice at home—such as revising times tables or exploring multiplication through games—can greatly support their progress.
Middle B are learning about fact families and the connection between division and multiplication.
Last week, our Grade 3 and 4 students enjoyed an action-packed and memorable camp at CYC: The Island, Phillip Island. The camp provided wonderful opportunities for students to challenge themselves, build confidence and develop important personal and social skills such as resilience, persistence and teamwork.
Throughout the camp, students participated in a range of exciting activities, including the Giant Swing, Flying Fox, Pinnacle Climbing Wall, and the Mechanical Wall. Each activity encouraged students to step outside their comfort zone, support one another, and celebrate individual achievements.
One of the highlights was a relaxing afternoon at the beach, where students explored the shoreline, discovering marine life, shells and coastal features. This hands-on experience helped deepen their understanding of the environment while sparking curiosity and wonder.
We are incredibly proud of how all students represented our school—showing enthusiasm, care for each other and a positive attitude throughout the entire camp. It was a fantastic experience filled with laughter, learning and lots of happy memories.
Juniors Tell All
We have had a very busy couple of weeks! In English, Junior classes have continued reading and exploring narratives, focusing on characters and how they impact the story. Junior A have been reading Koala Lou and Junior B have been reading The Imagineer.
In Maths, Junior A have been investigating length, using their hands and feet to measure themselves and a variety of objects around the classroom. They enjoyed moving around the classroom and discussing the differences in length. Junior B have been learning about calendars- how to write and read the different dates, identifying special days and events as well as calculating the numbers of days between events.
Junior students had fun in our Inquiry session, where we reviewed our knowledge of stars and they were able to create their own constellation using star stickers. There were some very creative patterns and figures.
Our biggest highlight from the past week (and possible the year!) was our F-2 Fun Day! Students started the day having a dance during the Silent Disco incursion, busting a move, changing up their music and encouraging each other to show off their best moves. Next was a creative craft lesson where students made their own clucking chickens, followed by reindeer biscuit making- yum!
The Grade 2s had an extra special event- Dinner and Movie Night! Students were excited to stay back after school and start the fun. They had afternoon snacks, completed a scavenger hunt and enjoyed playing outside. Then it was time to start the movie 'Dog Man'. Students enjoyed a delicious dinner of party food before continuing on with the movie while munching on popcorn.
