Prep and buddy morning
For our final morning in kitchen garden we were so excited to have our buddies join us to create a momento that will remain in the garden forever.

The kitchen was alive with preps and their buddies creating their tile designs then colouring them in. Thank you to Year Six who were so patient and encouraging, your preps absolutely loved spending time with you. Thank you also Miss Jones for your amazing support and organisation of our games after fruit break. She had to work up a sweat being chased in duck duck goose! Also thank you to Miss Marissa who lent us her Year 6's. The morning was lovely, the sun finally came out and we all had a great time. Please view the garden to see our work.

Final kitchen garden for 1/2B
Kitchen garden classes also wrapped up today for 1/2B. We produced some delicious chocolate chip biscuits and spinach (harvested from our garden) and feta pastries.

In the garden we have created a beautiful 'pond' for our cow to drink from. 1/2B students carefully and throughfully laid each mosaic tile. We think it looks amazing. In addition to the mosaic tile laying we also planted some plants donated by Charlie C's family, collected at the opening of the tunnel a week ago - thank you for the donation of these natives for our garden.

Chrismas Elves in 1/2
Up in a far away land of 1/2 we have some special guests that arrived this week - our Christmas elf's. Meet Lindt from 1/2RSB and Linda from 1/2MB. Lindt suddenly appeared on Wednesday morning and gave us a shock, as one minute he was not there and the next he was sitting on our tv - (Quin was the first to notice him).
Next we had a letter arrive advising his name and that he had a friend (Linda), who has no self direction but would be joining him and finally arrived today frozen in ice due to missing Australia and landing in Antarctica. Our Christmas trees are up and a favourite place to eat lunch with friends.

Additive patterns
This week Year 1/2 have been learning about additive patterns. Sometimes a new concept in mathematics just needs a little hands on learning practice, so out came some greyleads and we started adding them together - 3 + 2 --> 5 + 2 and so on - we reached 57 with our pencils, and hopefully a whole lot more understanding.

Respectful Relationships
Our Respectful Relationships learning this week was all about working together. Through team games, students learned that problems are easier to solve when we listen, take turns, encourage others, and stay calm. The 1/2s shared great reflections about how teamwork helps everyone feel included and confident, both in learning time and during play.

The Year 5/6 students had a great time at The Surf Life Saving Club at Altona beach. Unfortunately the water was not great to swim in, the student still learnt the fundamentals of water safety.

La Befana – An Italian Tradition
On January 6th, children in Italy celebrate La Befana, a traditional folklore figure who brings small gifts and treats to children. La Befana is a kind, old woman who travels on a broomstick and delivers presents to children who have been good, much like Santa Claus. Legend says she was invited by the Three Wise Men to visit Baby Jesus but arrived too late. Since then, she has wandered the world, giving gifts to children in his honour.
In our Italian lessons, students learned about the story of La Befana and explored this special cultural tradition. They created beautiful artwork, wrote short stories, and discussed the similarities and differences between La Befana and other gift-givers around the world. It was a wonderful way for students to connect language learning with Italian history and culture.
Buona Befana!
