Assistant Principals' Report

Hello everyone and welcome to our newsletter article,

Foundation Science Butterfly Incursion

Last week the Foundation students took part in an incursion learning about butterflies as part of our science curriculum. Preparation for our incursion started earlier this term when students had the opportunity to study the parts of a butterfly, as well as the butterfly life cycle. During the incursion, volunteer students dressed up with all the parts of the butterfly; wings, antenna, six legs, compound eyes. Other volunteers used puppets to demonstrate caterpillars turning into butterflies.

All the students got to spend time in the butterfly tent with the butterflies. Special sponges on sticks soaked in fruit juice to emulate nectar were used to entice the butterflies out to play. Several students got to hold butterflies on their fingers, while the rest of the butterflies gracefully floated around landing on shoulders, arms, and noses.

Everyone enjoyed the close-up interaction with the butterflies! The butterfly lady left us two chrysalises so we can see the progression of the butterfly life cycle up close!

Pat Cronin Foundation, Be Wise Walk

Thank you to HPS staff and students for their participation in the Be Wise Walk to raise awareness and funds for the Pat Cronin Foundation. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Foundation into 2026 and beyond. Education is the key to empower our young people to develop the understanding and skills they need to make safe choices, regulate emotions, seek support and guidance from trusted adults and build respectful relationships.

We thank our families and community members who supported our students to participate and for donating to a valuable cause. We have reached our target through online donations and together with gold coin donations are close to contributing $750 on behalf of the HPS community!!

For those who would still like to contribute, we will keep the page active for the next week or so, please see link here: https://bewisewalk.com.au/page/385699/heidelberg-primary

It was lovely to see some of our parents and carers join us for the afternoon as well, thank you!
