From the Head of Senior School

It is hard to believe we are approaching the halfway point of the first term, with our students beginning to prepare for their first formal assessments in their subjects. It is an important milestone, particularly for our Year 7 students, as they experience Senior School expectations for the first time. For Year 7s, assessments can feel daunting, but with the right approach, they can be an opportunity to demonstrate learning and growth. To help ease any stress, I encourage Year 7 students to:

  • Use their diary effectively – The school diary is an invaluable tool. Students can plan by recording assessment dates and breaking study for upcoming tests into manageable chunks. Regularly updating their diary can help them stay organised and on top of their tasks.

  • Ask for help – Students are encouraged to seek support from their teachers for clarification on topics they may find challenging. Teachers are there to provide support for students.

  • Remember to practise self care – A good night's sleep, regular exercise and time to relax are just as important as studying.

  • Stay positive – Approach assessments with a learning and improvement mindset rather than just results.

Setting goals is a critical component of academic success. Whether the aim is to enhance a specific skill, manage assignments effectively, or develop better study habits, establishing clear and attainable goals can significantly assist students in maintaining motivation and focus. I encourage all students to take the time to reflect on their progress and set personal objectives that will both challenge and inspire them in the coming weeks.

You and your child will receive their Effort and Dedication Report via Astra shortly. They provide valuable feedback on your child's attitudes towards learning and organisation. They highlight students' strengths and areas for improvement, focusing on their commitment, participation and organisational skills when in class. This feedback is crucial for identifying areas where students may need additional support or encouragement. We believe that recognising and celebrating effort and dedication is just as important as academic achievement. The reports aim to foster a growth mindset, encouraging students to take pride in their hard work and perseverance.

Important reminders

Hats

Althoughwe are experiencing changeable weather, students must wear an approved SunSmart hat when outside for all activities as the UV index is still high. Approved hats can be purchased from our uniform supplier, Bob Stewart. Please note that the old-style caps and bucket hats are no longer permitted. We kindly ask that you check in with your child to ensure they are wearing the correct hat so they do not receive a uniform infringement.

Visitors

I would like to remind parents and carers that if you need to visit the school premises for an appointment or to meet your child, it is essential to sign in at Morey Reception on Vine Street. Signing in allows us to track who is on the school grounds, and you will receive an identification label to indicate that you are visiting for a valid reason. If you are waiting to pick up your child, we would greatly appreciate it if you could remain outside the entrances on Vine or Wattle Street, or use the reception area of the Morey Building. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in ensuring the safety of our campus.
