Junior School Swimming Carnival 2025

The Junior School Swimming Carnival was held on Friday 14 February at Bendigo East Swimming Pool. The conditions were perfect for the carnival, with students from Preparatory through to Year 6 to participating in the event with enthusiasm and vigour.

They swam, splashed and cheered their way through the day, competing in various events. It was wonderful to see all the colour, sights and sounds of the carnival along with the camaraderie of the Girton community, cheering each other on and enjoying each other’s company. In addition, our students and staff were supported by a large group of Year 10 students from the Senior School. They were perfect role models for their junior counterparts and the carnival could not have operated without them. A big thank you to all who were involved in the day.

This year Riley House dominated, winning both the Spirit Cup and the House Cup. Well done, Riley House! We also had some standout swimmers on the day who performed exceptionally well, winning the Age Champion awards.

Year 5 Leadership Day

Last Monday, Year 5 students participated in a Leadership Day. Some students completed their Peer Mediation training with Kristy Elliot from Restorative Pathways while others had fun participating in activities that developed their teamwork and communication skills.

The Peer Mediators learnt skills such as active listening, conflict resolution, communication and teamwork. They also participated in role plays to practise how to mediate a problem. It has been wonderful seeing our 2025 Peer Mediators out in the playground supporting our younger students.

Our Peer Mediation training was fun and interesting. Kristy taught us how to identify other people’s emotions and listen when they have a problem. She gave us strategies to help the younger kids in the playground. This week we put on our pink vests and put our new skills into action. Being a Peer Mediator is a great way to develop our leadership skills. Already we are feeling more confident talking to younger students and helping them solve their problems. We do things like being there for them when they can’t find their hat and helping them find someone to play with.

This week, we quietly unveiled the new Angus Mackay Pavilion to our Junior School students. Watch as a sea of smiling faces rushes through the gates, thrilled to explore this wonderful new space for the first time!

The official opening of the Angus Mackay Pavilion will take place on Friday 7 March, with Junior School parents and carers warmly invited to the ceremony. Click here for details >
