Prep Learning Reflection

Over the Prep's first month of school, they've all put in an amazing effort adjusting to school and classroom routines.
Learning
We've begun our SoundsWrite program and have been learning and practising the sounds s, a, t, i and m (Unit 1). We will be sending home Reader Books soon for the students practise reading with the Unit 1 sounds and to establish building their nightly reading routines. Please ensure your child brings their Reader Bag (which can be purchased via the school uniform shop) to school if they haven't already.
More informations and ways in which you can support your child at home with their Reading will be discussed during Parent Teacher Interviews in a few days time.
In Numeracy, we've begun our EMP (Explicit Maths Program). The students have been learning to identify and write the numbers 1-3 and we've met 'Direction Duck' and his direction song which helps us learn to write numbers perfectly!
Over the first few weeks of school, we've been focusing on the Zones of Regulation. We have covered the Blue, Green and Yellow Zones. During these lessons, we learn about what certain emotions look and feel like, we think about what sort of situations would lead to these feelings, and the the strategies we can use to process, manage and regulate ourselves so that we can get back to the Green Zone so that we're ready to learn and play.
Buddies
This week we met up with our Grade 4 Buddies! We had a lot of fun drawing together and had a Picnic at the Big Tree at lunch time!
We try to meet up with our buddy classes every fortnight or so to work on projects together where the Grade 4s get to share their skills and assist the Preps with learning and craft activities.
We rotate buddies every term or so, so that the students get to work with and connect with different people and have more familiar faces around the school!
Prep Picnic!
We also had our Prep Picnic! Thank you so much to everyone who was able to attend. It is such as special event on our Prep Calendar and we had a wonderful evening connecting with you all.
A big thank you as well to Mr. David and Mr. Anthony for the entertainment! And to Ms. Jasmine for the colourful face paint.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS - Tuesday 25th of February
Please book via Compass, see the office or your child's classroom teacher if you need any assistance.
Hallway Routines
In the mornings before the bell, and at the end of the day before the final bell, please don't use the classroom hallways.
Students and parents are to walk to the line up area via the paths around the main building.
Similarly during afterschool pickups, please wait for the students in the line up area. Your children will walk to this area with their teacher after the bell to be dropped to you.
Once you are with your child, you are more than welcome to come into the building for them to show you their work that is on display in the hallways!
This manages congestion and ensures the students can walk safely to their drop off points. It also supports the students to be focused on their classroom tasks before the end of the day, and supports educators in the preparations of their students arrival. If you need to speak with your child’s classroom teacher, they are available after the final school bell, or additional meetings can be organised by email via the front office.
Accidents Hapen!
Just a quick reminder to make sure that all students have a change of clothes (underwear, socks, shorts/pants, shirt) and a plastic bag in their school bags.
