BREAKFAST CLUB HAS BEGUN!

Hello families,

What a great start it was last week for the new Breakfast Club. At 8:45am on Tuesday the canteen windows were opened and three wonderful family volunteers served toast to about 80 students. Vegemite, honey or plain was on the menu, and it only took a few minutes before the lines had formed. By Thursday, word had gotten out and this time even more students were ready for the volunteers. They had all the toasters in the canteen going and Ballan Primary School was filled with the lovely smell of buttered toast and the smiling faces of students having their first, second or sometimes third slice.

This program is run by volunteers and the supplies come from Food Bank – the same organisation that supplies fruit for all of our students, every day of the year, as well as home packs, for our families that are experiencing food shortages. Breakfast Club is open to all students, and it isn’t just about full tummies for focused learning. The program also promotes the social side of sharing a meal. The students have a social connection with each other, the volunteers and our staff – what a great way to start the day at school!

In this beginning stage, Breakfast Club will run on Tuesdays and Thursday from 8:45am – 9:05am. Stay tuned to see how it will grow. And if you would like to help out, or find out how Food Bank can help your family, you can call me at the school or email me at roisin.mauriks@education.vic.gov.au

Have a great week and take care everyone.
