St JOEY'S SWIM SQUAD CONTINUES ........ over 30 students from Years 3 to Year 6.

The improvement is the swimming level of all of our St Joey's Swim Squad Members has been astounding this year, with the determination shown by all of our swimmers, especially our new and youngest squad members, to be very inspirational to the parents watching.  Special thanks to Annabel, Kym and Assunta for helping me in implementing the Session Plans each week.  Thanks also to Mr Whelan, Mrs O'Shannessy and Mrs Barber for the school bus pickup back to school from the pool and to Emma Cervi for helping with preparing the breakfast foods for our swimmers on their return.

ANOTHER STATE CHAMPION AMONG OUR STUDENTS - Well done to Evie White (Year 3)     Like Mother, Like Daughter!!

Over the weekend, the Victorian Junior State Lifesaving Championships took place at local venue, Pt. Leo.

EVIE WHITE competed in both individual events on Saturday and team events on the Sunday, winning 3 GOLD MEDALS as a 9 year old.  I'd like to think that all of her extra St Joey's Swim Squad training and Intensive Swimming last week may have primed her for the event, but I think she may just be following in her mum's footsteps.

On Saturday, Evie finished 1st in the Individual Surf Swim, out of 60 swimmers of her age, the best from across Victoria. Winning her heats, then the Semi-Final, before winning the final.....all swims being on the same day!  How tiring for one so young.

On Sunday, Evie team came 1st in the Board Relay Event and then 1st in the Swim Relay Event.  An amazing effort for this 9 yr old athlete with a wonderful, positive attitude to match!

Recently, ANNABEL WHITE, one of our volunteer Swim Teachers of our SJS Program, WON the Ultra Marathon of 24km from Safety Beach to Sorrento as the first woman to cross the finish line and was the 3rd overall finisher, behind the first two men in a time of 6 hrs and 24 min.  An outstanding achievement!!   We are so proud of this mother/daughter combo from our school community.

ST JOSEPH'S OWN PREP TO YEAR 4                   INTENSIVE SWIMMING PROGRAM

We are so very proud of our School Swimming Program that for over 20 years has been the sole source of swim instruction for many of our students, but which has ensured that all of our students are competent swimmers by the time they leave St Joseph's School as a Year 6 student. With the luxury of having our own pool (shared with Sorrento Primary) our lessons cater for the students exact swimming ability and assist them to develop at their own pace.  We notice that with the Intensive teaching of lessons, everty day for 5 days, coupled with many of them doing our Swimk squad at Yawa, the students rapidly fast-track in their swimming ability and confidence.

This wouldn't be possible except for the wonderful VOLUNTEER Swim Teachers who have gained their Austswim Teacher of Swimming & Water Safety predominantly to assist our St Joey's students in teaching them these important life skills.  Helping me run this program included Annabel White (recent Ultra Marathon 24km Swim winner), Leonie Gagliardi (20 years experience in swim teaching), Bill Green (my dad) and the new graduates, Jacki Smith and Leigh Todd (my husband).  I also had the help of Mrs O'Shannassy and LSOs, Ebony Hood and Nicky Byrne.   Thanks also to the class teachers for their support across last week's program.

Enjoy these happy snaps!

Don't forget our SCHOOL SWIM CARNIVAL for all Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 students THIS FRIDAY at Yawa Aquatic Centre!  All students will swim in competitive 50m races, less competitive 25m races or novelty noodle or kick-board races.   Thank you to all of the offers of help.  Parent helper roles will be sent out via an Operoo News message tomorrow.
