From the Principal
To the Blue Mountains Grammar School Community,
As we conclude another eventful term, I write to you with a mixture of joy and a hint of nostalgia. Our school continues to thrive on commitment, excellence, and community principles, demonstrated again through the accomplishments and spirit we have witnessed this term.
Today, we not only celebrate the end of term but also bid a heartfelt farewell to our graduating Year 12 students, the Class of 2024. As they step into the next chapter of their lives, we take a moment to reflect on their journey and the vibrancy they have added to our school's legacy.
As we navigate the end of term activities at Blue Mountains Grammar School, I want to express my gratitude to our dedicated staff members. Each day, they contribute tirelessly to our students' and our community's growth and success. Their commitment to excellence sets the foundation for our school's nurturing and vibrant environment.
In the coming weeks, we will enter an exciting phase as we organise interviews for several available positions within our school, including the newly created Deputy Head of Junior School - Culture and Care role. We are thrilled about the addition of this position, which will undoubtedly enhance our ability to provide our students with an even deeper level of care and growth. This role is designed to enrich our nurturing environment further, ensuring that every student's educational journey is supported comprehensively.
With a mix of sadness and deep appreciation for her remarkable contributions, I advise Anne Cranna has made the decision to leave Blue Mountains Grammar School after 28 years of exemplary service. Anne has been a welcoming and familiar face within our community, and her contributions have left an indelible mark on countless students, families and colleagues alike. I am immensely grateful for her years of service and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
Notable Highlights from This Term:
Global Recognition by St James: We are thrilled to announce that the prestigious St James Publishing House has recognised Blue Mountains Grammar School and will be featured in the Commemorative publication celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Commonwealth. Our selection underscores BMGS's role as educational thought leaders, showcasing our contributions to leadership, innovation, and development. Directed by the Houses of Parliament and governed by its trustees - including Members and Officers of the Commons and the Lords - the book will be launched at a special event hosted by the History of Parliament Trust in the historic setting of Westminster Abbey. This global recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire community, past and present. Congratulations, everyone!
- Cocurricular Achievements: Congratulations to all participating in our diverse range of activities this term. From our spirited sports teams to our academic and STEM competition teams challenging the boundaries of learning and our outdoor education groups embracing the adventurous spirit, your efforts have added to the rich experiences of our school's achievements. Your willingness to 'step forward' exemplifies our values at BMGS and sets a wonderful example for all. Thank you!
- Strategic Transformation Project (Strategic Plan)
I am pleased to share that we are nearing the completion of our Strategic Plan. This blueprint will steer the course of Blue Mountains Grammar School over the coming years and has been crafted to align with our mission of fostering excellence in every aspect of our student's education and designing great learning that is doing good in the world. Shortly, we will be hosting some events to officially launch and celebrate this strategic vision with our entire community.
I also thank the parents who participated in one of our four focus groups. Your engagement and insights have been invaluable, and the productive ideas and conversations that emerged from these sessions have contributed to refining our strategic objectives. Your input ensures that our strategic plan reflects the aspirations of our staff and the broader school community and addresses our students' specific needs and potentials.
Together, these developments signify an exciting future for BMGS. I am grateful for our community's continued support and active participation as we move forward with a clear purpose and vision.
- School Masterplan Update: We continue developing the school master plan in collaboration with Novum Architects. This strategic blueprint will guide the future development of our campus and facilities, ensuring that BMGS remains a conducive environment for learning and growth. We are excited about the progress and look forward to sharing the plans with our community early in the new year.
- Farewell to the Class of 2024: The past week's "Festival of Year 12" has been a heartfelt celebration of our departing seniors. As we send off the Class of 2024, we do so with confidence that they will continue to excel and contribute meaningfully beyond BMGS. Both their achievements and their character mark their legacy at our school. We eagerly anticipate hearing of their future successes and how they continue to carry forward the values they've embraced at BMGS.
As we reflect on the term, I sincerely thank our staff, students, and parents for your unwavering support and commitment. Each one of you contributes to making BMGS a vibrant and nurturing community. Enjoy a well-deserved break, and I look forward to welcoming you back next term.
Warm regards,
Steven Coote
