Empowering Children Through KidsROAR Protective Behaviours Programs

At our school, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for all students. Next term, we are proud to partner with KidsROAR, a leading provider of Protective Behaviours programs that focus on ‘Personal Safety 4 Kids’. These evidence-based programs are designed to educate children, parents, teachers, and the community about personal safety and child abuse prevention, significantly reducing a child's vulnerability to all forms of abuse.

What is Protective Behaviours?

Protective Behaviours is a globally recognized program that promotes personal safety skills for both children and adults. It focuses on empowering individuals with strategies to prevent abuse, reduce violence, and promote overall well-being. KidsROAR has built its program around two core themes:

1. We all have the right to feel safe at all times.

2. We can talk about anything with someone we trust, no matter what it is.

The ‘ROAR’ in KidsROAR

Through KidsROAR’s interactive sessions, children learn to ROAR:

  •  Recognise: Understand feelings, warning signs, and safe/unsafe situations.
  • Own: Know that their body belongs to them.
  • Assert: Have the confidence to use the No, Go, Tell strategy.
  • Report: Identify trusted adults and persist in telling them how they feel.

KidsROAR Programs: Tailored for All Ages

For Primary School Students (Foundation to Year 5):

The KidsROAR program is designed to be delivered each year, reinforcing and building on vital protective behaviors in an age-appropriate way. From learning about safe and unsafe feelings to understanding body safety and respectful relationships, the program is aligned with the Victorian Government Child Safe Standards and the Victorian Curriculum. This consistency ensures that children are continually empowered to take charge of their personal safety. Our Year 6 students are engaging with the Elephant Education program.

Why Personal Safety Education is Vital:

Statistics show that 1 in 5 children will experience sexual abuse before their 18th birthday, and the most vulnerable ages are between 3-8 years. Education plays a critical role in prevention. Studies indicate that children who know the correct anatomical names for private body parts are less likely to be targeted by offenders, as it shows they have had education on body safety. This is why programs like KidsROAR are so essential—they provide children with the knowledge and confidence to protect themselves.

A Three-Way Partnership: School, Home, and Community. We believe that personal safety education is most effective when schools, families and the wider community work together to deliver a consistent message.

We encourage parents to discuss the KidsROAR program with their children and reinforce these important lessons at home. For more information about the KidsROAR programs and how they contribute to a safer community for our children, please visit their website or contact our school Child Safe Champions Jen Gulavin or Peta Overbury.

Together, let's empower our children to ROAR with confidence, resilience, and safety!

Stay tuned for more updates about the KidsROAR sessions and our commitment to promoting a safe learning environment for all students!

Emergency Evacuation Drill Success!

Today at 10:40 am, we conducted an emergency evacuation drill at school. Upon hearing the Code Red alert, all classes moved swiftly and safely to the basketball courts. Impressively, all students were present within 3 minutes, and by 5 minutes and 30 seconds, all roll calls were complete, and buildings checked.

By 10:55 am, students were back in their classrooms, enjoying their snacks before heading out to recess.

We’re proud of how well the students responded, and you should be too!

Please join us in congratulating your child on handling the drill so well.
