Prep to Grade 2:

Prep/Grade 1

What a fabulous (and busy) start we have had to term 4! The children in Prep/1A have thoroughly enjoyed the Perceptual motor Program (PMP) which we will be running on Monday afternoons for the remainder of the term. The students engage in 5 rotations (locomotion, balance, fitness, tracking and coordination) and finish with a fun game. Two grade 5 students help us out each week, which provides an invaluable opportunity for these children to grow and develop their leadership skills in preparation for grade 6! Thank you to our parent helpers - and if you would like to be included on the roster, please don't hesitate to shout out!

In literacy, we have been practicing reading and writing words with FIVE sounds (CCVCC)!! We are also embarking on learning our first consonant diagraphs - two letters, one sound! Last week we started with ck which makes the sound /k/, and this week we are learning about /sh/ in words such as ship, brush and RUBBISH!! We have been practicing our recount writing by retelling the exciting events of our holidays and our recent excursion. We have also started learning about informative writing - last week we learnt lots of facts and wrote about the humble chicken!

In numeracy, we are continuing with our measurement unit - learning about length, mass and capacity. These lessons have been very hands on and experiential. It has been lots of fun!

Grade 1/2

So far this term, Grade 1s have been learning about the sound /yoo/ and the four spellings u-e, ue, u, and ew. Grade 2s have learned some alternative spellings for the short i sound: y, u, and ui (mystery, lettuce, build), and how to use and understand the prefix re- to change the meaning of verbs.

In Maths, we're tackling a measurement unit for the start of this term. We've learnt all about measuring and comparing length, weight, and now capacity using informal units. Students have loved the hands-on activities that naturally come along with developing these fundamental skills.

Grade 2 Sleepover

In preparation for senior camp, students in Grade 2 have a special sleepover at school each year. This is the first sleepover for many of our kids and helps get them ready to be away from home. We had our Grade 2 Sleepover on the second last day of Term 3 this year and it was a raging success!

Students loved hanging out at school after hours, playing games, eating party food, and even having a silent disco (thanks Mrs Thornton)!

We set up in the library, which was the perfect spot for our cosy movie watching, and meant that even our earliest riser (5:40 am!) had endless books to read until it was time to get up and ready for Footy day on the last day of term.

We were so proud of our amazing Grade 2s who had so much fun and supported each other through those worried moments of missing home. We made it through the night with no early pickups and while we were all zombies at school on Thursday, the whole night was an absolute blast!

A very special thanks to Mrs Thornton and Miss Della who spent the night with us. And a big thank you to Miss West for organising and managing the event.

Chesterfield Farm Excursion

On Monday the 21st of October, the Junior Module headed off to Chesterfield Farm. We had an amazing day in the sun, looking at, learning about, and feeding farm animals.

We are so grateful to the fabulous staff at the farm who taught us so much about animals and farming practices, and to our incredible parent helpers - Jemma, Tara, Andrew, and Jo who volunteered their time to help us out for the day.
