Principal's Update
We have had a fantastic start to Term 4 - with lots of excitement about our new courts!! Students and staff are just loving it. It not only looks fabulous but it's a much better surface for all sporting activities. Make sure you check it out!
DIVISION ATHLETICS:
We are very very proud of our 7 students who went to Division Aths last week!
See Mr Elliott's report on the Grade3 -6 pages.
HOT OFF THE PRESS: Yesterday Locklin and Ilikana participated in the REGIONAL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL at Doncaster Aths Track. We are so proud of both the boys for reaching this high level of Competition.
It was fabulous ( and a bit nerve wracking) to watch both boys compete.
The results were as follows:
100 m sprint - Locklin 1st palce
200m spring - Locklin 1st place
Age 12/ 13 Shot Put Ilikana 3rd place
The sportsmanship displayed by the boys was so goosd to see!
Fantastic results by both boys!
Locklin will continue on to The State Championships early In November!
The boys came to support Locklin and Ilikana. Locklina ndi were lucky enough to get a photo with 800m Olympian Abbey Caldwell.
CAMP: Grade 3- 6 - WE CAN'T WAIT!!
We are very excited to be heading off to Waratah Bay for camp this year on Nov 27-29.
Having worked in Outdoor Education for many years, I see so many benefits in students participating in camp. School camps are a great way for students and staff to learn and connect with each other outside the classroom setting.
At Graduation every year - when students are asked to reflect on their favourite things at school: amazing experiences at camp are always at the top of the list.
Yes, students are often nervous before camp - but as experienced staff and parents ourselves, the benefits and the growth is incredible.
Students:
- Develop socail skills
- improve independence
- building lasting relationships
- Challenge themselves
- have a memorable, fun adventure
SUNSCREEN and UV:
Following a recent School Council meeting we have placed sunscreen in both Modules for students to use as required.
Please discuss with your child about the use of sunscreen. We still encourage students to have their own roll on sunscreen in the bags which they can use as required.
Further information from our Sunsmart Policy:
" Sunscreen
Waverley Meadows Primary School encourages all staff and students to apply SPF50 or SPF50+ broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen daily whenever UV levels reach 3 and above. Sunscreen should be applied at least 20 minutes before going outdoors, and reapplied every two hours (or more frequently if sweating or swimming).
Waverley Meadows Primary School supplies SPF50 or SPF50+ broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen for staff and students to use in each module and the Office, so it is readily accessible. Students and staff are reminded and encouraged to bring their own SPF50 or SPF50+ broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen to school- roll on sunscreen works well.
Waverley Meadows Primary School has strategies in place to remind students to apply sunscreen before going outdoors including reminder notices, reminders in Assembly, sunscreen stations in each module near entry and exit points. Sunscreen that is supplied by the school is stored below 30 degrees and the expiry date monitored.
At Waverley Meadows Primary School, if students do not have their own sunscreen, they are welcome to access sunscreen in their module.
Staff and students who may suffer from skin reactions from certain types of sunscreen are encouraged to provide their own sunscreen in their bag to reduce the risk of a sunscreen reaction at school. "
