Wellbeing Term 3 Review

Wellbeing have had another busy term, particularly behind the scenes during Term 3. We have also had some really great whole school wellbeing activities on offer for all of our students.

Basketball Mentoring & Engagement Program

The basketball program, which has taken place on a weekly basis for 6 weeks is hosted by two senior youth workers from Frankston Youth Services. The target participants are students who are interested in basketball and are disengaged from school. The purpose of program is to offer an opportunity for young people to build their skills, discipline, character and teamwork. It also allows the students to build a better relationship with the school as they are able to see that the school is providing them with a fantastic opportunity that they are interested in.

This program has been able to not only enhance basketball skills but also promote important values of leadership, teamwork, and personal growth. All participants have been fully engaged in the program and each week demonstrated our College values of respect, community, persistence and excellence. A Big thank you to Shay and Kellie from Frankston Youth Services for providing this fantastic opportunity to our students.

International Friendship Day

On Tuesday 30th July we celebrated International Day of Friendship with activities at lunchtime. Students made friendship bracelets for each other, completed a scavenger hunt and Kingston Youth provided lawn games. It was wonderful to see students bringing their friends along and celebrate each other.

Wear it Purple Day

Wear It Purple day strives to foster a supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environment for all rainbow young people. Our College’s RESPECT Action Group chose to support this day on Thursday 29th of August, to include all year levels in this day of celebration. Thursday 29th saw our RESPECT Action group meet for lunch to celebrate the day. We would love to thank the many staff and students that chose to wear a purple accessory to show their support towards the LGBTQIA+ community.

R U OK? Week

R U OK? at Patterson River Secondary College is a week long event that grows in size each year. R U OK? Is a mental health promotion campaign that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times in their lives. Again this year we had Form teachers across Year 7-9 select 2 Form Ambassadors. The Ambassadors attended a 2-period training session where they will were involved in skill-based training on the implementation of the R U OK? 4 step process. The Form Ambassadors then took their learnings and shared this through daily information communicated with their class during each Form Assembly.

Student Ambassadors wore yellow R U OK? Ribbons or merchandise for the week to signal their ambassador role. Along with our R U OK? Ambassadors, the Wellbeing team ran several wellbeing and engagement activities across the week to promote connection and engagement for our students and staff. A HUGE thank you to all our ambassadors who completed the training and championed their role with pride. Also, thank you to the staff involved, wearing R U OK? merchandise, attending wellbeing and engagement activities and helping us with the pancake lunches! It was a huge success and we love that we have been able to bring awareness to how important meaningful conversations can be with the ones we care about.
