ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People and we would like to pay our respects to the elders, both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

That’s a wrap for another busy and productive term at Milgate Primary School. Enjoy a well-deserved break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back, refreshed and ready for Term 4, starting on Monday, 7th October.

YEAR 1 | GAMES NIGHT

On Thursday the Year 1 students had their special games and dinner night. They enjoyed afternoon tea, some tabloid sports- Limbo, Egg & Spoon Race, Duck, Duck Goose; Pin the Tail on the Donkey and Under & Over. We followed this up with a movie, juice and a pizza dinner! Students enjoyed playing with their peers from all the year 1 classes and found it thrilling to be at school with their friends after school finished. A big shout out to the Year 1 parents that helped us run this super fun night!

PRACTICE LOCKDOWN AND EVACUATION

Last week and this week, we conducted a practice lockdown and evacuation to ensure that all safety measures are in place and that our students and staff are well-prepared in case of an emergency. The drills went smoothly, with everyone following procedures quickly and calmly. Regular practice of these protocols helps us maintain a safe and secure environment for our school community.

15th November: School Disco: F-Y2 4.30 pm - 6 pm and Y3 - Y6 6.30 pm - 8.00 pm
2nd December: End of Year concert: 5.30 pm - 7.00 pm
20th December: Last day of Term 4. 1pm dismissal

SCHOOL HATS REQUIRED FOR TERM 4

At Milgate Primary School, wearing hats during Term 4 is essential for all students to stay sun-safe during outdoor activities. As part of our Sun Protection policy, students are required to wear broad-brimmed during recess, lunch, and any outside lessons. Please ensure your child has their school hat ready as we move into the summer term.

ART SHOW IN TERM 4

In Week 3 next term, we will be hosting our biennial Art Exhibition, commencing with our Opening Ceremony on Wednesday 23rd October at 4pm.

Every student at Milgate will have art on display, and we invite all Milgate families to come along and view their child’s spectacular creations. A range of artworks will be on display throughout the school buildings, including:

Paintings
Stop-motion Animations
Sculptures
Pencil Portraits
Textile creations, and much more.

At our Opening Ceremony, we will be fundraising through the sale of 2025 calendars featuring student artwork, and a silent auction. There will also be performances by the school choir and band, a sausage sizzle, cake stall, and family-friendly activities. We would greatly appreciate it if parents could remind younger children to “look, don’t touch” in order to avoid any damage to artworks.

We look forward to seeing as many Milgate families there as possible. For those unable to attend the Opening Ceremony, artworks will remain on display for parents and students to view between 8.45am - 9.00am and 3.30pm - 3.45pm.

YEAR 6 EXHIBITION

Exciting Times Ahead: Year 6 Exhibition Approaches!

Our Year 6 students are gearing up for one of the most anticipated events of the PYP journey – the Year 6 Exhibition!

The Exhibition is a significant event in the IB PYP curriculum, providing students with an opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they have acquired throughout their primary years. It involves a collaborative, in-depth investigation into a global issue, where students explore a topic of interest through various lenses, showcasing their findings, solutions, and reflections.

Currently, our Year 6 students are taking a deep dive into their chosen topics, driven by their curiosity and passion. Students are investigating a global or local issue, applying their research skills, critical thinking and creativity to develop insightful presentations.

They are exploring their chosen interest or passion through the central idea of “Discovering our passions and identifying significant issues can inspire us to take meaningful action”

Exhibition Day – A Celebration of Learning

Our Exhibition Day will be held on Wednesday 13 November, which is an exciting event where students will present their projects to parents, teachers, and peers. It will be a fantastic opportunity to see firsthand the incredible work and dedication of our Year 6 students.

The Year 6 Exhibition not only marks the end of a significant phase in our students' educational journey but also sets the stage for their transition to secondary school. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to celebrating their success.
