Foundation-Grade 1 Miss Bennett

We're coming to the tail end of Term 3 with only 2 weeks to go. This F/1 beehive have been working so hard on their learning goals, new learning concepts, and the most exciting thing that has happened has been the Foundation/1 Liturgy!!

Miss Bennett was so incredibly proud of the planning, practicing and attitudes about sharing the F/1 liturgy with the whole school and all of the special visitors who came to watch. To be able to stand up in front of an audience and have a 'Red Hot Go' at public speaking at such a young age- it's incredible. By the time 5/6 rolls around they will be experts at speaking in front of a group.

Here are some of the highlights from the F/1 learning over the past two weeks:

- F/1 Liturgy on the 'Season of Creation'.

- Sharing our news with our new 'Daily News' roster.

- Beginning our learning on patterns in maths.

- Learning how to write a diary entry to match our 'Text Based Unit' Gary.

- Mavellous Men's Breakfast

- Football Colours Day

Grade 3 Mrs Stock

In class, we have been learning about how to write Allegories. Allegories are stories, poems, or pictures that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning. Here are some of the stories that the students came up with.

Ivy The Jaguar By Charli

One day there was a jaguar called ivy. Some of the things she liked that she could do were jumping, running quickly and climbing. She lived in the wise jungle and she likes to chase birds but now all of the birds she likes to chase are always up in the sky but she is scared of heights so she can’t climb very high, so this means she can’t chase the birds. So she tries to get a little bit higher but she thinks that someone will push her so she quickly goes down to the ground.

Later on she meets a wise old tiger that said there are no bad animals in this area that made Ivy not that scared. Since the tiger told her that she was not scared, she climbed higher and higher. That made her feel not scared at all so she climbed higher and chased all of the birds but she was very careful not to slip or fall. Then she jumped to catch one of the birds but she fell down the tree.

So then she went to the other side of the jungle. When she was there she saw a monkey. The monkey always fell out of the tree so ivy thought maybe if l fall it won’t matter. So she climbed a tree. She fell down a couple of times but then she climbed higher without falling. Then she made it to the top. She was not scared of heights anymore and thought it was amazing.

Then she went back to where she lived and was chasing birds and climbing trees. It made her feel very happy.

The lesson is it’s ok to face your fears and you shouldn’t let your fears stop you from doing something amazing.

Bella the Dog By Phoebe

Once there was a dog called Bella. Bella has super speed. She loves competing in races but one day she got really competitive and started bragging about how fast she was and that she had won about 50 first place ribbons. Her friend Coco did not want to be Bella’s friend any more because she kept bragging. Bella did not realize what she had done and everyone stopped cheering for her. They just booed her. Bella felt lonely and sad she had no friends any more. Coco said, “Bella, you are teasing people and saying you're the fastest and that's why no one likes you.” She said, “This isn’t like you and I know that you are a kind person, not a mean person.” Bella said she was sorry. So when Bella went to the next race she said sorry to everyone and started being nicer. Everyone cheered and clapped for Bella again. Coco liked the way Bella was and so did Bella.

The message is to always be humble.

Tess the Cow By Edith

Once upon a time there was a cow named Tess and she lived in Hey Land but there was a problem. She lost her mooooooo! So she couldn’t go to parties but her friend Sydnee would stay with her and cheer her up but this meant that Sydnee couldn't go to parties anymore either but Sydnee was okay with it. Tess decided to practice her mooo and she ended up getting her mooo back. So Tess and Sydnee were able to go to parties again.

The moral of the story is to never give up.

Grade 4 Mrs Loughran

We have been working very hard in the Grade 4 classroom to complete our units of work.  It has been a super busy term and we are grateful to have had so many wonderful learning experiences so far.

Literacy:

We have just completed our Text based unit called Rosy's Journey.  This focussed on Allegories.

Numeracy:

The students have been busy learning about Length, area and mass.  Each day, students are involved in Daily reviews and hands-on activities to help them engage in this exciting topic - check out the photos of us weighing the mass of different objects.

Inquiry:

We are heading into the last weeks of our inquiry unit.  The students are showing a good understanding of what life was like for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples before the arrival of the Europeans.  Students are also learning about the stories of the First Fleet including causes and reasons for their journey.

Year 9 St Augustine's Partnership Program:

The Grade 4 students were lucky enough to travel to St Augustine's in Kyabram to participate in activities created by their Year 9 Buddies.  The Scavenger Hunt was a huge success, the students loved it and learnt how to navigate using a map.  They also needed to answer questions along the way.  We are extremely grateful to our Year 9 Buddies for their effort they put into this activity.

Grade 5-6 Miss Rasmussen

The Grade 5/6 class is really enjoying their text-based unit on Number the Stars. We’ve been exploring the history behind the book, which is set in Denmark during World War II. The story has also introduced us to the concept of foreshadowing, and we’re identifying many examples that keep us on the edge of our seats, not wanting to put the book down!

Here is what a few of our class think of the book...

“It’s very suspensful and interesting” - Hannah

“I am finding it interesting learning about World War II” - Amelia

“I like the part where they hid Ellen” - Xavier

“The plot twists are unexpected” - Jacob

“It holds suspense in the story and you can tell how the characters are feeling” - Riann

“Number the Stars is interesting because it has a lot of information and what’s going on in the world at that time” - Toby

“It’s a great book because it has plot twists and history” -  James

“It has a lot of foreshadowing and excitement. It’s never boring” - Jack
