From the PE Team
Term One has been an incredibly busy term for the PE team with Interhouse Swimming, Co-Curricular, ACC Swimming, NWAS and two camps alongside a number of other school events. Thank you to Mr Conrad Sloan, Miss Molly Raynor, Miss Sadie Yoxall, Mr Adam Edwards and Mr Benji Busby. All our carnivals and events are truly a massive team effort so thank you for all your work across our many events.

On Tuesday, March 24, around 70 St George’s students left the school buildings for Perth High Performance Centre to compete in the Associated and Catholic College’s (ACC) C-Division Swimming Carnival. For a school with our number of students, this is an incredible achievement to be in this division, built over years of hard work from our swimming teams since we started in I-Division in 2017. Overall, we finished 6th in a very competitive pool of schools from Perth and the country, meaning we remain in C-Division for next year’s 2027 carnival. There was excellent team spirit across the day, with lots of wins, a number of reserve students stepping in to race on the day and even a new ACC record! Thank you to every single athlete that contributed to the team on the day. It is an incredible day to be a part of and congratulations to all students who represented the St George’s Dragons on the day.

We had four students finish in the top 5 for the overall age champions. A big congratulations goes to Matilda Lowden (2nd U13 Female), Fieke Potter (3rd U15 Female), Kiera Bradley (4th U17 Female) and Anouk Potter (1st U19 Female). This is an incredible achievement for these students, well done!

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our incredible Sports Captain, Anouk Potter. Anouk contributed a number of new initiatives to ACC Swimming this year, leaving her legacy in her leadership role alongside her name in the record books. Anouk ran a presentation at our ACC Swimming Breakfast, created the Year 12 athlete posters and designed our brand new St George’s girls
bathers, all whilst setting a new 50m freestyle record and winning the overall age champion for U19’s. This is an exceptional display of leadership and success, congratulations Anouk!

We now turn our eyes to Cross Country, which is on the 28th of April. If anyone is looking for a holiday activity, go for a practice run through Kings Park!

Over the course of Week 10, we had over 120 students head out to Brittania Reserve and Warwick Stadium to compete in our NWAS carnivals. The sports on offer were Volleyball, Cricket, Basketball and Ultimate Frisbee. As ACC encourages, “Sport in the Right Spirit” was on show as all teams competed with excellent sportsmanship and teamwork. Our Year 7/8’s competed on Tuesday whilst the 9/10’s competed on Wednesday, alongside a number of our Year 11/12 coaches supporting on the day. It really was a full team effort, so thank you to all involved for your contributions to two very
successful days. Our Winter NWAS Carnivals are now in Week 10 of Term 3, so keep an eye out if you wish to attend in Semester Two!

These past few weeks have been a great way to wrap up the term for our Year 12 Outdoor Education students, with plenty of hands-on experiences and some memorable moments.
We finished our snorkelling unit with a trip to the Omeo Wreck, and we were lucky enough to get a perfect day for it. The conditions made it easy for students to show the skills they have been working on in class, including finning, mask clearing and duck diving. It was great to see students growing in confidence in the water and supporting each other throughout the day while exploring such a unique spot.

To finish the term, students headed down to Margaret River for their expedition, which is always a highlight of the course. Over a few days, they walked sections of the Cape to Cape Track, explored Giants Cave and had the opportunity to take on a 40m abseil into the entrance of a cave — definitely a standout experience.
Across the expedition, students put a lot of their learning into practice. They navigated using maps and compasses, set up camp, managed their gear, and planned and cooked their own meals. Just as importantly, they showed strong teamwork, leadership and resilience, particularly when things became physically or mentally challenging.

This expedition had been building for a number of weeks, and it was really pleasing to see how well students handled it. They approached each activity with a positive attitude and were willing to step outside their comfort zones, which is what Outdoor Education is all about.
A really strong end to the term, and a credit to the group.
