As the term wraps up, many of us say we are looking forward to “a good rest”.
But real rest doesn’t just happen because the timetable stops - it is something we choose and create.
Rest isn’t just sleep. It is anything that helps your body and mind reset after a long stretch of effort. For some people that’s a quiet morning, reading for enjoyment, or a walk without a destination. For others it’s talking, laughing, and reconnecting with people who lift them up. Here three small ideas for real rest:
Protect unstructured time. Leave a few days with no plans. Doing “nothing” gives your brain space to wander and recover.
Switch off the noise. Try a few screen‑free hours each day, especially from study chat or social media loops.
Notice what fills your tank. Ask yourself, “Do I feel calmer or more drained after this activity?” Then choose accordingly.
Remember, rest is not reward for finishing the term - it’s the foundation for starting well next term. Whether you are spending the holidays travelling or staying home, give yourself permission to slow down, without guilt.
Wishing every member of our St George’s community a safe, restful and genuinely re‑energising break.
