Setting the standard from the start

As we reach the conclusion of what has been an exhilarating and highly successful first term, I extend my sincere thanks to our entire school community for embracing our theme of Embrace, Excel & Empower. This term has reflected these values in so many of our actions and activities across all year levels.

We were delighted to welcome our largest-ever cohort of Year 7 students to the St George’s Family, gathering at the cathedral for the first time in their bright red blazers to commence Term One at the end of January 2026. Their positive transition into secondary school life, particularly within the vibrant environment of the CBD, has been

commendable. They have approached new challenges with enthusiasm and resilience, they have found new friendships, navigated city life and are already demonstrating a strong sense of belonging within our community. I am confident that they are looking forward however to a well-deserved rest during the Easter holidays.

Our student leadership has been a highlight for me this term. Our Year 12 Leaders and Year 9 House Prefects have exemplified outstanding leadership in all that they have undertaken. They have brought a warmth to our assemblies and chapel services. Their ability to foster connection and school spirit has been deeply appreciated and valued. Well done to you all.

Across the year levels, students have engaged in a wide variety of experiences to help them build friendships and connections. Our Year 12 students celebrated their School Ball at Mandoon Estate, our Year 10 students held their newly designed social at 441 Murray Street and our Year 7s enjoyed making new friendships outside of their classes during their Year 7 Camp and Picnic in the Park afternoon.

The social side of St George’s school life is thriving. House spirit has been flourishing this term as we have commenced the four House competition for the very first time. Cowan House held their Charity Day before the Labour Day Public Holiday with our inaugural ‘Chant Off’. What a spirited and enthusiastic competition that was.

Today Gandhi House concluded the term with vibrancy and energy by hosting the much-anticipated annual Colour Run. Events such as the Interhouse Swimming Carnival and our participation in the ACC C-Division Swimming Championships highlighted both participation and perseverance in school life by so many students. It has been incredible to see everyone’s involvement.

Academically, students have embraced new subjects this term with the opening of our Woodwork Workshop by Mr Nguyen and a range of new electives across Years 7 – 10. Students have navigated several important milestones, including nailing NAPLAN for our Year 7s and Year 9s and making pathway decisions in Years 11 and 12. As interim reports are released via SEQTA later this afternoon, I encourage families to reflect on both the range of achievements that are noted and also the areas for future growth and development. As the saying goes,

“Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

This mindset is central to our approach to learning here at St George’s.

Our commitment to service learning has been phenomenal this term. We have started our fundraising for the Central Park plunge at the end of the year with our silly socks for the summit. We have held our Green for Growth Day and the World’s Greatest Shave quickly became our largest fundraiser to date, raising over $22,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation. This remarkable achievement reflects the generosity and compassion of our students, many of whom participated with great courage by having their hair chopped or head shaved. Well done to everyone involved in this event.

The term has concluded with a variety of co-curricular activities, including NWAS sports competitions, further reinforcing the importance of balance, teamwork, and personal growth. As we move into the much-needed Easter Holiday break, I encourage all members of our community to take time to rest, recharge, and unplug.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you.”

Holidays are an important time for thoughtful reflection and renewal. As Term One ends we need to consider what went well and what can we potentially do better?

I wish all families a joyful and blessed Easter. May it be a time filled with peace, connection and celebrations with friends and family —and perhaps even a well-deserved overindulgence in chocolate. Thank you once again for your continued support for all things St George’s. As a reminder, Term Two commences for all students on Tuesday, 21 April.

Warmest regards,

Mrs Tina Campbell
